The work of the Greek poet Sophocles, Antigona

Antigone is a tragic work written by, the Greek poet, Sophocles. It was first recreated in the year 411 to.C. The plot focuses on telling the history of Antigone, who is exposed to a human ethical dilemma and a transcendental one regarding the divine law. This is because, after the death of his brothers, polynices and eteocles who killed each other, I think who is the king of Thebes decrees that only Eteocles will receive dignified burial, thus prohibiting giving the funeral honors to polynices, this inconsequence of having betrayed the people of Thebes. This is how the central problem of this tragedy begins: the contrast of a man’s edict against divine designs.

This text, in its extension, is loaded with religious elements that influence the development and end of the plot. From the beginning we are raised by the relationship of this text with religion, since the story takes place in the city of the 7 doors, thebes, which is assigned a divine origin. Next, we are shown the tragic past that the family of Antigone loads, who descends from the labdacids, this in the reason that they are cursed: his great -grandfather Labdaco offended the god Dionisio after refusing to execute his rites so he condemns his descendantsTo live hardships and martyrdom. When developing the facts, we see how the protagonist, due to her faith, feels committed to burying pollinices and giving her honor, since those who do not receive dignified burial are condemned to wander eternally by the banks of the Aquerante River. When Creon learns that his decree disobeyed himself, he enraged and orders to bring the person in charge of him, later the guardian brings to Antigone and she assumes his responsibility, it is at this time that I believe is missing the god Zeus, protector of the home, condemningDeath to someone from their own family. Decision that then modifies to die from starvation and not of his own hand: natural death. The figure of the choir, who was constituted by the elderly, is another point, extremely relevant to explain the divine scope in this work. They respect the king’s decision, but they do not share it, in fact, while the narrative progresses they are committed to the antigone. “Now a light had spread in the Palace of Oedipus on the latest ramifications. On the other hand, the divine comedy is a written poem, by the poet, Dante Alighieri during the fourteenth century. It should be noted that its original title is commedia, but later Boecio added the divine conception, leaving the divine comedy. The plot that develops is the physical-terrenal-interior-reflective trip- to which Dante submits, this because he wanted to meet his beloved Beatriz, who has a divine connotation, and be worthy of that love. Therefore, it is a poem of divine love and love towards Beatriz. Throughout history we find various symbols and references to religion. First, the constant appearance of number 3: hell is divided into 9 circles, number that is a multiple of 3 and there are 3 stages, or kingdoms, of the poem-hell, purgatory, paradise. Number that symbolizes the divine Trinidad- Father, Son and Holy Spirit- in Catholicism. Secondly, Virgil is shown who is dead and is part of the first circle, that is, in Limbo because he is not baptized. Second, the circles or levels of hell detail the punishments to which sinners are subjected, each one is oriented to the sin they committed. Being divided as follows: in the second are the lustful ones, in the third who committed gluttony, in the room the greed, in the fifth to the suicides and angry, in the sixth the heretics- who questioned or denied God-, in the seventh the violent, in the eighth the fraudulent. Third, there are characters or demons typical of the Bible. In hell are beasts, executioners and demons that torture the souls that reside there for eternity. Finally, when Dante reaches the end of hell, he meets the circle, which is a place that lacks the divine light and where there is a total absence of God, so unlike the other levels it is a cold place andof ice. It is here where the fallen archangel Lucifer resides, which has three faces he uses to crush the 3 greatest traitors in history: Judas, Casio and Gross. The figure of Judas is another element of Catholicism, being one of the first traitors, after Lucifer. "This the greatest penalty has touched: it is Judas Iscariot, whose testa is in the mouth, and angry kick: down those two have it on". 

The big difference between both writings is the fact that in one-antigone- fate is dictated by the gods, so that his family is condemned to suffer and in another- the divine comedy- is the protagonist who makes his own decisions,being able to choose the virtuous or dark path. “Consider, I followed, your ancestry: for animal life you have not been born except to acquire virtue and science.”[Endnoteref: 2] Another difference is that Sophocles’ text is a tragedy, however, Dante’s is a medieval allegorical poem. Therefore, although their themes are oriented to religious beliefs, their outcomes are completely opposite, where Dante has a happy and antigone end. 

As a synthesis, the divine comedy is a human poem that ends in the divine, so there lies the present influence of religious beliefs. In the case of Antigone, the divine duty and the laws of the gods are the ones that motivate and make the plot possible.
