The most important stage: adolescence

The stage of adolescence is a very vulnerable period during which individuals begin to expose themselves to great risks. It may be one of the stages of life that requires more help from adults so that they are willing to listen, understand and support. They begin to feel part of the adult world but they still do not have the right tools for it. During this stage, many teenagers tend to feel that they are on the verge of losing everything. Obstacles in communication is a risk factor in adolescents.

The concept of self – esteem is a final conclusion of the self-assessment process, the individual has a concept of himself, if he later goes to self-assess and integrates important values, this, we say that it has a specific level of self – esteem.

Therefore it is a valuative feeling of our being, who we are, of the set of bodily and mental features that form our personality. This is learned, changes and can be improved. It is related to the integral development of personality at the levels: ideological, psychological, social and economic. It is proper in all people and a social product that develops with interaction, in the process of activity and social experience.

In research on the trajectory of global self – esteem for both sexes, relatively high levels are found in childhood that decrease when the stage of adolescence begins and throughout this. These levels increase again from the beginning of adult life and decrease again from the average ages of adult life to old age.

self – esteem is closely related to self-concept and influence each other, both are fundamental components of the personality of all human beings. The perception and valuation of individuals on themselves condition their psychological balance, their social interaction and their work performance. The self-concept is defined as the image that each individual has of their person, projecting their experiences and the way in which these experiences are interpreted.

It is formed about what one thinks that others think of us, of the comparison with other people, and can be influenced by age, gender and role that one plays in the social sphere

He plays a crucial and central role in the development of personality, as highlighted by the main psychological theories;A positive self-concept is at the base of good personal, social and professional functioning, depending on it, mostly, self-satisfaction and feeling good with oneself. The term personal self-concept used to name one of the four great domains of self-concept preferably stands out on other denominations (such as emotional self-concept or moral self-concept …) for being more comprehensive than others and by understanding that it covers all of them

And it is the result of a process of analysis, assessment and integration of the information derived from the experience and interaction of the significant others, which constitutes an important knowledge basis about our skills, achievements, preferences, values, goals, goals,etc. The knowledge base, and its organization is not randomly elaborated, but is a selective and creative process.

In this context, the present study that aims to identify what factors encourage self – esteem in adolescence, study the characteristics of self-concept, identify what basic and/or social emotions are present at this stage, analyze what is understood in theadolescence for well -being or happiness, and study the vital project of adolescents that begins to demonstrate.

In this way, it is hypothesized that, as the participant is in a more advanced stage of adolescence, their self – esteem is slightly diminished, either due to internal factors or external factors. As well as that the level of maturity is an expression and a vision with a more realistic perspective on a future project that is closest in the last phase of adolescence.
