The misuse of natural resources and their impact on the environment

The environment is the space in which the life of living beings (flora, fauna and human beings) develops and that allows the interaction of them. The system is not only understood as living beings, but also of other elements, necessary for its existence: abiotic elements such as water, soil and air, and artificial elements, such as urbanization.

Although the flora and fauna have always adapted perfectly to the ecosystem and have evolved with it, the human being has tried to modify it to adapt it to their own needs (and continues to do it every day). With technological evolution and constant population growth, environmental balance has been lost, and especially from the industrial revolution, the human exploitation of mineral and fossil resources is one of the greater causes of the deterioration of the environment.

Environmental pollution consists, in fact, in the presence of chemical, physical or biological agents in the environment, which have harmful effects on the health of living beings. Examples of these agents include gases emitted in industrial processes, toxic spills and non -biodegradable waste generated in the production of goods and services.

One of the main consequences of pollution is global warming, whereby the atmospheric temperature, as well as that of the oceans, is increasing progressively. This climate change is causing natural disasters such as droughts and hurricanes, and could result in the disappearance of animal and plant species, not only devastating the natural balance of the planet, but also causing hunger and destruction.

In addition, air, water and soil are being contaminated at a level that had never been seen before, due to the excessive and indiscriminate use of, among many other things, cars, plastics and fossil fuels.

Personally, I think that now the most important thing is for everyone to actively participate to stop the destruction of the environment. Today’s society, without realizing it, is accustomed to many routines that hurt the planet. Therefore, in my opinion, the first thing that should be done would be to educate the population to consume and work in an eco-responsibly. Promote savings and drastically increase the use of alternative energies are, without a doubt, equally important: natural resources, such as water, electricity (whose generation consumes raw materials) and food would have to be managed responsibly, since their availabilityIt is limited. In addition, I do not believe that without punishing those who deteriorate the environment, the problem can be solved: if there were more serious sanctions, companies as well as individuals would probably respect more environmental laws and the environment.

In conclusion, I think that the consequences of the negative impact on the environment have gained importance and recognition only in recent decades. The governments of many countries seem more aware about the urgency of reducing this imbalance with very likely catastrophic consequences, but I think we are still far from an effective solution to solve the problem and save the life of the planet; It is in our hand to act today and make sure that future generations inherit a world as we know it, or even better.
