The main actors in the conflict, Russia Ukraine

Introduction

The main actors that are involved in the conflict are Russia and Ukraine, but simultaneously in this conflict the European Union and the United States are involved, we can also observe that in the background of the conflict the countries that formed the Soviet Union are very involved, the conflicts that generate their disintegration made relations tense between countries so their participation is secondary but equally important way. To enter a little more on the subject, these are some of the actions that countries did to consider them within the conflict.

Developing

  • Ukraine

After Russia attached Crimea to its territory in April, attacks from pro-ruse groups were given, its objective was to attack government buildings in the Luhansk region and also in the Donetsk region. The majority of the rebels were armed, which made the tension of the moment into a confrontation with the kyiv authorities. For politicians and the media it was a great opportunity and blame kyiv’s leaders as nationalist people trying to abolish rights and oppress the opinions of activists and protesters.

Donetsk and Luhansk rebels driven by the tension generated by the conflict sought to become independent from kyiv. In Ukraine months later mass protests were born because citizens were dissatisfied with the president’s actions, these protests are caused after President Viktor Yanukovich refused to sign a treaty that had previously negotiated with the European Union, this treaty would make UkrainePart of it, so that the protests demanded that the Ukrainian government move forward with the negotiations and the signing of the Treaty with the European Union.

  • Russia

Months later the Prime Minister of Ukraine, I accept that it had been Russia that had influenced kyiv so that he did not sign the treaty with the European Union, granting in exchange for this an economic aid for the country. After these actions, the protests and discontent of the citizens were getting worse, every time the protests became more radical, now demanding not only economic change relating to Europe but also the change in the form of government.

Thus, the protests and demonstrations of society resulted in an agreement in which the elections were allowed to advance a transitional government, to try to stop with the violence and discontent of the people towards the form of government.

Collaterally to the entire problem that was generated against Ukraine, Russia’s relations with Western powers were dramatically paused, relationships were bad since the collapse of the Soviet Union, but they were more affected due to the incorporation ofCrimea and the war that broke out with Ukraine.

  • USA and European Union

At the beginning of this conflict the United States tried to dissipate the tension between Russia and Ukraine trying to use its Reset policy, the Reset policy was based on restarting the relationships that were had with the country, but after launching this proposal President Obama, the President Obama, theresults were not favorable.

Before the president Víctor Yuschenko could be chosen, antigubernamental manifestations were taken that wantedAppeal the social discontent that was had, they only accelerated the process of falling the regime, which was corrupt and authoritarian. The main cause of these revolts was the president’s refusal to sign an agreement with the European Union.

Ukrainian foreign policy carried out throughout the mandate of President Víctor Yuschenko focused on maintaining his links with Europe and the United States, this as a priority. The European Union was not interested in the insistence of forming more links with Ukraine. This, as a result of the actions carried out by the Ukrainian Government, subtracting credibility for cases of corruption and power vacuum.

Some time after this refusal towards the Ukrainian government, the European Union promoted a negotiation with the countries that were previously formed from the Soviet Union, which would make integration with the rest easier for countries without affecting their relations with Russia, thiswould lead to the creation of the Eastern Association. This association intends to deepen and strengthen links between the following countries, Poland and Sweden on the one hand in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan;Although this association did not guarantee its immediate and permanent stay in the European Union. Thus resulting in profitable for the European Union and Russia.

One of Yuschenko’s main objectives was to turn Ukraine into a permanent member of the European Union. And on the contrary, President Yanukovich had as a government strategy it was to get closer to Russia than the West contrary to Yuschenko. Because of this, the president made the decision to reject and interrupt all the negotiation processes they were carrying out with the European Union. President Yanukovich, on the other hand, decided to make an economic, commercial and energy agreement with Moscow that would later facilitate access to the Eurasian Economic Union.

conclusion

This generated increasing discomfort in European community authorities, the claims of the European Union to Ukraine were based on the fact that the democracy and human rights of citizens should be respected, leading to the tensions that prevail today with Great Britain,Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and Sweden.

On the other hand, Germany, as was dependent on Russian gas, was more friendly and flattering towards Russia, since the beginning of the conflict while still maintaining its support when diplomatic warnings, pressure policies, and economic, political and military sanctions inagainst the Russian government. The main countries with which Russia had more contacts during and since the beginning of this conflict were France and Germany.
