The importance of religion
There are numerous irrational beliefs in the world, many of them are believed by millions of people and have been relevant throughout history, as could be the case of religion. But how important religion is and why is one of the most important irrational beliefs?
Irrational beliefs are those that is a rigid idea towards an issue that has not been confirmed by science, such as religion, which is, according to DRAE, a set of beliefs or dogmas with moral norms for individual and social and social behavior andritual practices, mainly prayer and sacrifice to cult.
Religion is considered as irrational belief because the existence of a superior being, a God, has not been confirmed or denied by science. For example, there have been great scientists who have not denied the existence of a God, such as Albert Einstein. It is true that this is a great debate in the scientific community, since according to a study conducted in different countries by the Rice University found that most scientists believe in a superior being, despite not being demonstrated.
The origin of religion dates back to the Middle Paleolithic where it is believed that the first religious behaviors by the Homo Sapiens appeared, who made burial rituals, this demonstrates their knowledge about death and concern for what happened after. However, the different religions began their development during the Neolithic with the appearance of the first civilizations.
It is believed that there are about 4200 living religions in the world, although it is difficult to determine the exact number. This figure was given by the philosopher Kenneth Shouler who also determined the impossible to count the extinct religions.
The most popular and followed religions in the world are Christianity with 32.8% of the world’s population, Islam with 22.5%, Hinduism with 13.8%. Only with these three religions more than half of the world population is already covered. Only 11.8% of the world’s population is non -believer. This leaves a number of 888.540.000 people not believing about 6.641.460.000 that if they are. The balance is clearly tilted towards believers.
In a survey conducted to 22 students the following data have been determined: 50% do not believe in any religion. The other 50% believe in a religion in which all coincide, Christianity. Of the believers, 45% say that this belief came for influences of their environment, while the remaining 55% of believers believe for other causes: answer unknown questions, nearby experiences, be the religion that they trust the most …However, 68% of all respondents believe that religion is important.
In conclusion, in the data given above you can see the influence of religion in the population and as most people believe in a. Even many non -believers highlight the importance of this. In general, religion is very followed worldwide and has marked the course of history a lot, therefore, we can consider religion as the most important irrational belief in the world.
