The family crisis of Puerto Rico
Introduction
I will begin this essay defining what the family concept is. The family, according to sociologists, is a group of people united by kinship ties, whether consanguineous, by marriage or adoption that live together for an indefinite period of time. This constitutes the basic unit of society. From my perspective, the family is defined as the group of people who relate to each other and serve to meet the basic needs of the individual. The family, although sometimes we do not want, will define much of who we are like people. It is very important for the individual and for society in general, since society is composed of many families. This is where the individual begins what the socialization process is and of course, to develop as a person.
We are used to seeing that a family is composed of a father, a mother and her children, but the reality is that today that concept of what is a "normal" family is not in force. We see homosexual couples raising adoptive children and we see single mothers like the head of the family. Both situations, today, although they are not the most common, we see them increasingly frequent. Possible factors that promote these family structures being more common are light marriage and changes in mentality.
During this essay, I intend to explain and describe possible causes to the family crisis that exists in Puerto Rico. If you are Puerto Rican, you have surely heard people say that society is in crisis and that it gets worse and worse. I understand that to facilitate the process of knowing how to fix things, the problem must be brokenPuerto Rican families will also be a crisis in society in general.
Crisis in Puerto Rican families
Why is it established that there is a family crisis in Puerto Rico? To answer that question, I will begin by defining the word crisis. The crisis concept is defined as an abrupt change or an important modification in the development of an event, and this can be both physical and symbolic. Crisis is also a complicated or shortage situation. With this already said, let’s continue to understand why it is said that there is a crisis in the Puerto Rican family. Since the world is world, people say things are bad and that Puerto Rico is suffering an existential crisis. The truth is that today, compared to the situations or problems facing Puerto Rico, the crisis is 10 times worse. In families we are not seeing healthy or efficient relationships, on the contrary, it is increasingreason why they are sad or annoying. Communication has become very little effective and this has led to conversations among many families being superficial, short or without consistency.
Causes of the family crisis
From my point of view, the family crisis revolves around three situations or problems. I will call these situations or problems. Identify these three causes, letting me be carried away by aspects that I understand that affect a family, positively or negatively. Seeing that the three causes create a negative effect on the family, we can say that, obviously, Puerto Rico suffers from a family crisis. The first cause is the economy. The economy, of course, directly affects the families that make up a society. It is known that Puerto Rico suffers from a very strong economic crisis and this is reflected, in its purest state, in Puerto Rican families. Some of the negative effects caused by an economic crisis in a family are stress, poverty and pressure or concern of not having the ability to meet each of the needs of family members. This situation is directly related to the second cause that I present as a reason for the crisis. The second cause is the neglect and lack of communication between family members. Parents, when they are economically pressed, seek alternatives to solve that problem but forget that if they focus only on satisfying the physical needs of their children, most likely they forget to meet the emotional needs of these. Children need a lot of emotional support and a lotIn the integral health of their children.
So, a kind of cold and dry relationship between parents and their children is usually created. There will be no healthy affiliate paternal link based on trust, love and love. This type of behavior in a family also leads to lack of communication with each other. I consider very sad the fact of many families do not have the habit of telling themselves as they went during the day along with a warm greeting kiss after being time without seeing. Worse, do not dare to talk about their problems or concerns. This type of relationship is more common than people think and is worrying about the fact that just as you treat your family you will treat those around you. If we treat our own family as if they were anyone, imagine how we are going to treat those who do not keep any relationship with us.
Another possible cause is today’s technological advances. It is rare to see that a family feels at the table of his house to dinner all together without looking at his cell phones. The problem with this is that we alienate ourselves completely from what happens around us because we are very focused on the cell phone screen, thus avoiding spontaneous conversations at the table and that special moment of sharing all together as a family together a richDinner. For me it is also quite worrying the fact that most of today’s children have immediate access to electronic devices and many times without their parents’ supervision. Worse, that there are young children obsessed with social networks, virtual games, even with "chat". This somehow has to negatively affect the family, either by the fact that future electronic devices are being formed.
Possible solutions to the family crisis
According to scholars, there are different alternatives to solve the family crisis, specifically to the possible causes I offered. For lack of communication, scholars suggest practicing it, since communication is nothing more and nothing less than expressing themselves through dialogue and that is achieved by creating confidence with each other. We need to learn to listen to each other and create tolerance in order to understand what is being communicated without judging or creating a conflict. In order for the economic situation of your country not to affect your family in other aspects, scholars say that we must understand that your economic situation is only that, your economic situation and that, under no circumstances, we must allow that to affect your relationship with yoursons. If you decided to work more to contribute more money to your home you must keep the right balance between your work and a healthy relationship with your children. I completely agree with what the scholars say we should do to solve these problems, and thus be able to improve the family crisis in Puerto Rico. I understand that a common solution that has the three problems that I mention is to create an adequate balance to establish healthy relationships between family members.

The family crisis in Puerto Rico is more than evident. My purpose with this essay was to be able to break down the concept of family crisis and see what its root and possible causes is. I discovered that the socio-economic crisis is directly related to the family crisis because society is nothing more and nothing less than many families together. To understand the social crisis that exists we have to understand first that it is the family crisis and how we can solve it. Since the world the world there are problems in society and obviously, in the family too. What happens is that over time they evolve. Some become more complex, others become more serious and another simply cease to exist.
