The educational inequality in Latam

Today for each of us it is evident that our society has taken great steps to eradicate poverty in its entirety, in some places it has been achieved, but, in others unfortunately not;Because the main source of the problem is not eradicated, inequality.

Of course, inequality in the world has had a great decrease since 1990, evidencing poverty reduction. But this has grown exponentially within countries.

You have to see inequality as a political option, where governments want to reduce the borders between income and wealth, thus seeking to improve the quality of life and give opportunities to the poorest citizens.

To be able to speak and discuss inequality, certain parameters must be kept in mind:

First, inequality arises and could be caused by a series of social circumstances, such as status at the economic level or composition of the family, ethnicity, gender, or even geographical location. All these factors contribute to an inequality of opportunities of the members of a society;Consequently, reducing the mobility of an next generation.

Second, to eradicate barriers to opportunities, governments must seek the roots of inequality in society, eliminating all kinds of discriminatory laws. Even more than much of inequality is seen in large part of childhood, governments have the obligation to invest in a higher quality and education at an early age.

To achieve all these investments, it will be necessary to have additional national resources;generalizing, progressive taxation is necessary to increase government income. But, it is also a good management of the administration, so that the government can prevent a tax lift.

With better management and mobilization of resources, social protections and transfers can be transformed into potential tools to reduce the great differences that income and wealth present.

Governments have to be totally sure that all the benefits of progressive politics reach the most needy. For them the authorities should ask for perspectives of their most vulnerable citizens when designing solutions to eradicate poverty and inequality. Giving voice to these people will allow to have more authentic, true analysis, and they will ensure that resources are really fully directed for this population.

Now placing ourselves totally in the context of our country. Colombia is a country has had significant results in poverty reduction. However, it continues to be one of the most unequal countries in the world. Despite the sustained growth of the economy, the gap that separates the rich and the poor is getting bigger.

Although inequality has tried to explain from economic theory, the truth is that political determinants are many more important. Access to education and jobs is a responsibility that the State must guarantee;However, access conditions and quality have an impact on the increase in inequality.
