Tablets and textbooks

Introduction

In recent years, we have attended a technological and computer development in our society that has made it possible. This does not mean that technology guarantees us better academic performance, so I am going to question the advantages and disadvantages of the introduction of ICT in education, Tellería. Can tablets replace books?  I will base my conclusions on an experience of a friend who studies at the Highland school in 4th ESO ESO.

Developing

In their school they decided four years ago to implement a new method of study through tablets, trying to eliminate books. To do this analysis I have interviewed three actors: the student, the mother and English teacher at Highland, all well -known of mine. Among the strengths that I have found in the use of tablets is that it is an innovative project because not all schools have been launched to this new method. In addition, we can say that it is an advance, since formerly, technologies in the classrooms did not apply. Currently, in this school, tablets have been implemented for 4 years.

They started in secondary school and have extended up to 4th grade, so we can see that over the years it has evolved implanting in more courses. On the other hand, a strong point of the tablets is that students have easily adapted to this change, since, today, technologies are all available since they are small. Another positive idea of tablets is that students learn better than with books and, if you have any questions you can directly contact the teacher by mail. Also, an advantage of the implementation of tablets in school is that it is a social reality, since school approaches education to current society.

The student in the future will face a labor market where their main instrument will be this technology. This is a project that has been going on, 4 years, therefore, you have to file some weaknesses.  On the one hand, in the family, parents are accustomed to traditional methodologies, that is, books, paper and pencil, so they have to get used to this great change they. Students when studying are distracted even having restrictions on tablets. In addition, when studying it is a very slow and less fast process than the books, since you have to connect to a platform and the coverage can fail.

Another weakness is that, even if they have the tablets, students continueThey perform in writing. What then would the balance between tablets and books? The project they have developed in the highland has resulted in some complaints by students who ask for a greater complement to traditional text books. It is normal that, in a new model that changes the structure of education, go through certain crises until it reaches the optimal point. It will be the experience and learning of errors that finally determines the balance point.

conclusion

In conclusion, I think that technology is an allied instrument that has come to education to stay, but as we have seen, it cannot become the only tool for teaching, but must be combined with some traditional methods such as textbooks, folios or notebooks. Finally, after having investigated on this subject, I think that there is still a long time for the tablet to replace the book because reading a physically makes us better understand the contents, since, as the ABC says in its section of neuroscience, “to theBrain costs you less to read on paper ".
