Surveillance service in Colombia

Introduction

In Colombia there are more than one million people in the surveillance and security sector affiliated with ARL. Part of this community is supporting the surveillance service in more than 26 thousand educational institutions, which allows us to question: how exposed is the security personnel to labor risk factors that can trigger diseases or occupational accidents?, It seeks to know, especially, those risk factors related to the time of work and those that derive from the location or the jobs of the guards in the education sector.

Developing

As for the working day, it is perhaps the predominant risk factor, due to the 12 -hour programming that the safety personnel in rotary schedules handle, which limits the time that the vigilante enjoys with his family and his social environment, alreadythat the work is routine with repetitive and little stimulating activities. In the education sector the goals and areas in which the security personnel operate forces the guards often to work alone.

In other words, rotating and nocturnal shifts for a worker have negatively impact on the quality of life of people belonging to this sector, increasing fatigue and tension, generate alteration in normal biological rhythms, which can alsoCause sleep disorders, insomnia, discomfort at the digestive level, fatigue, irritability, etc., It can also happen that these shifts and their jobs do not facilitate the obtaining of professional promotion opportunities, demotivating the guard in their performance and generating abandonment for operational employment that guarantees the same income, with the possibility of personal and professional growth.

In Law 1562 of 2.012 that modifies the Occupational Risk System, stipulates the prevention of occupational hazards by the employer, who must guarantee health in all jobs in such a way that it generates adequate work environments, trying to minimize positions that affect physiognomy, theAnthropometry and in general, the physical and mental conditions of the human being.

The economic activity of the private security sector and its characteristics highlight different risk factors of the activity itself: risk factors such as psychosocial, related to violence at work and work stress, and biomechanical risk factors such as: aboutefforts that derive in load manipulation, the positions assumed: in prolonged standing, forced positions and repetitive works.

In the education sector, private security is exposed to day -to -day risks such as accidental shots, moral harassment, aggressions and ill -treatment, falls to the same or at different levels, blows against mobile or motion objects, abuses by vehicles in parking lots, noise, Electrical risk factors, fire, among others. The design of the work site and even the infrastructure of the place can cause the vigilantes to perform inappropriate positions in the provision of the service, and the probability of the event will increase to the extent that the working hours are not adequate, directly influencing theworker, who will eventually end with pathologies born from their work exercise.

conclusion

The maximum working day in Colombia is regulated by article 161 of the Substantive Labor Code (CST), and it is the maximum schedule in which a worker can work in one day and in a week. The standard establishes that the maximum working day in 8 hours a day and in 48 hours per week, with the possibility of two extra hours per day, that is, a maximum of 10 hours day, however, currently the security personnel handle shiftsup to 12 hours a day.
