Sofia World movie

The movie El Mundo de Sofia was produced in 1999 the script was written by Petter Skavlan and was directed by Erik Gustavson. It is based on the book written by author Jostein Gaarder. The author describes abstract concepts about life and philosophy in a didactic way, making comparisons with people’s daily experiences, which makes them easily understandable.

The movie The World of Sofia is a work that leads people to philosophical questioning. Throughout this film, the story of a teenager close to 15 years named Sofia is told, which begins to receive letters that contain questions such as: Who are you? Where does the world come from? These questions question their knowledge about itself and the world that surrounds it. Sofia makes a small trip in time guided by a tutor, during this way she begins to feel little by little the love for knowledge and the search for truth.

Plato raises the myth of cave as an allegory, to refer to the cave and its intrinsic property of darkness analogous to the conception of ignorance, prisoners such as human being and light as knowledge or truth or truth. This implies that many times we are immersed in ignorance because we just see and understand only what they show us as absolute truth without the slightest desire to investigate if everything they raise is real is real. In the film El Mundo de Sofia we can appreciate the reference to this approach, in the scene in which the philosopher Alberto Knox which serves as a guide for the young woman throughout this entire journey explains this parable to imply the reason for the reason forthat some people still remain immersed in ignorance, are in a comfort zone of which they do not dare to go out. A clear example is the trial against Socrates held in Athens in 399 to.c. People judge this philosopher for introducing ideas in young people considered incorrect, acted collectively and took this behavior to reject all new appreciation due to the limitation of thought and fear of getting out of their comfort.

Plato also distinguishes two areas of reality: the sensitive world and the intelligible world. The sensitive world is everything that varies over time (physical objects) on the other hand the intelligible world is the world of ideas which is the model of sensitive things, therefore everything belonging to the sensitive world is adefective or imperfect copy of the belonging to the intelligible world. All ideas have particular characteristics such as: they have no physical properties, they are eternal, they are perfect and invariable. In this cinematographic work Alberto and Sofia begin to question their existence, questioning if what they are living is a reality or are simply part of someone’s imagination, however, if they are part of a reality. Later thanks to perseverance and search, they understand that their time is limited, so they belong to a book that is writing an older for their daughter as a birthday gift.

The importance of philosophy in emancipation has played a very transcendental function throughout history, being the engine of most revolutionary thoughts. With the help of this study, thought schemes have been broken. This freedom that generates contributed to the freedom of expression of man. Many of the revolutionaries have gone through the questioning as a method to get out of the dark. In the movie The World of Sofia we can observe the special mention that is made on the influence of philosophy in most revolutions, an example of this is the scene where Alberto travels in time with Sofia to explain the reasons for the French RevolutionAnd as an illustration makes people see the situation clearly and understand that they have the right to act to correct this disagreement. In the case of the French Revolution, the need to end the abuse of power based on Rousseau’s ideals arose.

To conclude we can say that philosophy has an important role in the life of the human being, since it leads to basic questions, it drives us to the search for truth and knowledge, philosophy seeks to get us out of our comfort zone so that we learnTo leave the limitations and assess by our own means, not to be fooled by society and settle for what is considered correct or truthful to put aside those collective acts.Philosophy has played a very important role throughout history serving as an impulse of many revolutionaries, artists, writers and in general it has served as support of the human being to function in different aspects such as cultural, social, political, religiousetc. This film clarifies the need of the human being for the search for knowledge and relevance that philosophy has in the historical events that have marked existence.

It is relevant to clarify that philosophy can be used as a tool to question us about the things around us.The movie The world of Sofia makes us an invitation notIt is, without fear that its comfort is affected.
