Social Services and Socio -health crisis with communities
Before the socio-health crisis by the COVID-19, emerging needs that require efficient and comprehensive solutions, not only welfare. Starting from this idea, it is very important to remember that the social worker rather than managing resources intends to make the most potential from the individual, promoting his abilities in order to overcome the obstacles that arise in his environment.
However, during the state of vulnerability generated by pandemic, we have been able to see the structural failures of the system. Municipal Social Services Centers have been closed, only 20% of professionals have been left by working that the only thing they can perform is a minimum service with the provision of a feed card, thus giving a welfare response due to collapse, cuts and cutslack of staff.
In addition, this social work model is based on beneficence with a very determined intervention subject, currently the population needs support in more aspects such as rental, supplies, medications, accompaniment, emotional support, resolution of the digital divide, improvementof coexistence, etc.
All this is influenced by an image of the neoliberal society that reflects an individualistic culture and blames the individual for their "poverty", in which society does not exist and the public has been replaced by the market, that is, the response is externalizedto demands where public-private collaboration is requested by establishing a corporate beneficence that seems to have as its main objective the marketing of private companies. It should be noted that more than 70 % of services in Aragon are processed by private organizations, when responsibility should be public.
On the other hand, it has been concluded that our welfare status is directly related to the labor market, as the labor market is also done by the welfare state, suggesting the need for a basic income within a security systemSocial. However, they have spontaneously emerged neighborhood support networks that they might legitimize, since since solidarity they have responded rapidly before the situation through teamwork serving as a model of community social work for social services, which seeks to support theindividual from his reality by empowering him before the difficulty.
This pandemic has shown that no one is exempt from needs and require social services, we are all vulnerable and interdependent. Marginality should be avoided, although the lack of defense of our social system that is with very fragmented competences and also the knowledge about the profession is not so understood in society is understandable, since a 2005 study showed how the population relates thisWork with charity, therefore, pedagogical work is necessary, since if the profession is understood, there is more likely to be defended and supported to a greater extent.
In conclusion of this debate, the dissemination of social work and the incorporation of community measures involve a new challenge to face a new stage in today’s society, solving problems for the population and from the population that is the most aware of the needsand weak points to face, understanding the public as a common space under everyone’s responsibility.
