Social networks today

Introduction:

Some say that social networks are interesting, necessary and even essential in today’s society. Others consider them, expendable, dangerous and even useless. The truth is that since they appear on the Internet, the world has transformed a lot and now have become a need in our lifestyles. But at what price? And can we justify or need a change?

Developing:

First of all, social networks are increasingly important in our lives. Not only has it allowed to reduce time due to the rapid transfer of information, but also the networks make us up to date on what is happening worldwide. Today, we are considered a society of readers, that is, most of us usually read something every day, whatever: a book, an article, some tweets etc. However, we must not fall into the mistake of believing everything that says and is commented on social networks. To the parrot! Therefore, it is important that social networks (in any of their facets) are handled with some prudence because if they cannot lead us to be part of a mass of blind sheep.

However, there is a consensus in which social networks can not only be useful to professionals and companies, but also constitute an extraordinary tool for students that allow them to work from home – ex. During the Coronavirus pandemic students continue their online studies from their homes. Also, social networks serve as a hobby. On the one hand, they are good because they are used to establish friendships, maintain relationships and many fall in love in that virtual world. On the other hand, there is the danger of misinformation because networks are fertile land for all types of harmful actions, for example, false rumors that threaten a person’s dignity and reputation could cause tragic consequences from mental health problems to suicide. Can this be justified by the benefits of social networks? Let’s explore disadvantages in more detail ..

Another important disadvantage posedreal among people and that is why many experts and psychological ensure that social networks encourage antisocial behavior. Therefore, we must consider future generations, since I don’t think anyone want children who don’t even want to interact face to face.

We must mention that we already know that the most popular social networks are sources of innumerable benefits for its users including those that I have already mentioned, but there are always two sides of the currency, so they also generate unhealthy side effects, especially on mental health. The figures show that 1 in 6 young people will experience an anxiety or depression disorder at some point in their life because of social networks. As an example, see constantly on vacation or enjoying the nights can make young people feel that things are being lost while others enjoy life;I mean the new phenomenon of ‘Fomo’ (the feeling of missing something). Often unrealistic images that are offered, mainly on Instagram, they can cause young people to have feelings of low self – esteem and the search for perfectionism that can manifest as anxiety disorders.

That said, most of our society has not known a world without access to the Internet and social networks. The daily (or almost daily) use of the Internet has increased rapidly in the last decade and that is why it is difficult to say that we do not need this technology – it has rooted in our lives. Although there are some consequences of the use of social networks, it does not seem possible or practical to return to a world without them. However, what we should try to do is break social stigmas and control the use of these platforms more carefully.

How can we achieve this? Here are some possible solutions: educate people about the use of these networks, establish more privacy settings, impose stricted age restrictions and punish people who abuse networks with greater hardness. As a result, the negative impacts of social networks should decrease.

Conclusion:

In summary, social networks are a business, education, communication and leisure platform that we need in life and so far have caused some worrying effects. However, we have the duty to use networks more careful to protect people and at the same time maintain our freedom of expression. It’s time to take action!
