Social EngagementName: Institution Affiliation: An elderly lady was selected for the research and was subjected to a 45 minutes interview. The interviewer asked the participants ten questions in which she gave her thoughts and ideas. This interview was recorded in the script. The participant showed mastery in the meaning of social engagement and demonstrated that she was part of it. She had social circles of friends ranging from family to workplace and outside work. She often communicated with her friends either in person or through the phone. She had close friends such as Marlin, whom they could open up and share everything that happened in their lives. They shared a lot in common with her friends who are of same age, immigrants too and faced same struggles in life. She experienced changes in social interactions as she aged such as a change in home location, new friends, children, and grandchildren maturing, work and coworkers and many changes every year. The numbers of her social circle throughout her life changed as friends come and go. She benefited by being connected to other people in her life. Family and friends to talk to, support each other and celebrate with were vital to her life. According to her, the importance of social connections in one’s life is getting advice, support one another, make one happy and stay true to who one is. Her advice to the younger generation was to work hard now when they have the potential to do so. She insisted on obedience and listening to the advice from parents because they have experienced more than the children have.
