Sexual abuse and its reasons for the increase

We will define as sexual abuse of “any activity or sexual contact that occurs without its consent. Can involve physical strength or threat of strength ”(sexual violence, 2020, first paragraph). This type of violence does not respect gender, age, or economic position.

Sexual violence occurs more frequently in women, but men are also victims. Approximately 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men have been victims of a violation that was carried out or an attempt to violation (forced penetration) in their life. However, sexual violence is not limited to rape.

In men this percentage is 15.2%, and in women, 22.5%. This follows from the only national study carried out so far, which Dr. Félix López, from the University of Salamanca, developed in 1994, commissioned by the then Ministry of Social Affairs.

The psychologist Oscar Castillero Mimenza makes a brief explanation of the different types of sexual violence, which are:

  • sexual harassment
  • Sexual assault on people with disabilities
  • Sexual assault on the elderly
  • Sexual assault as a crime of hate
  • Incestuous sexual assault
  • Child sexual assault
  • Instrumental sexual assault
  • Rape
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Rape during wars
  • Group violation
  • Rape by spouse or couple
  • Violation by strangers

Our research emphasizes child sexual abuse which we will call as an involuntary sexual assault of an adult towards a child, who is based on our project specifically between 4-7 years of age in the Huachi Loreto parish, province of Tungurahua in the year2020.

The consequences to these infants are usually very devastating since they grow and develop with fears, with limitations and threats, we can classify them in short and long term consequences:

Short -term consequences

  • Physical: Nightmares, genital pain, loss of appetite.
  • Psychological: rejection of your body, shame, loss of value, anxiety.
  • Behavioral: aggressiveness, low school performance.
  • Sexual: Inappropriate knowledge for your age, you can incite masturbation, or even distort your sexual preferences.
  • Social: antisocial, attention deficit. (The consequences of child sexual abuse, 2018)

Long -term consequences

  • Physical: hypochondria, eating problems.
  • Psychological: depression, low self – esteem.
  • Behavioral: suicide attempts, narcotics consumption, low work performance.
  • Sexual: Fear of intimacy, difficulty satisfying, high risk of suffering a violation or getting involved in prostitution.
  • Social: isolation, difficulty expressing themselves, affectionate problems with their children. (The consequences of child sexual abuse, 2018)

In this way, sexual violence not only affects physically to the mental state, it is recommended to resort to a psychologist who can provide help, therapies to overcome the traumas caused, in minors it is more difficult to detect alerts in this situation, the law protects minors, however, misinformation abounds in society, and this type of crime is still standing at an accelerated pace.

The UN document collects the 10 rights of the children we are going to present.

  • Right to life
  • Right to Food
  • Education rights
  • Right to water
  • Right to health
  • Right to identity
  • Right to freedom of expression
  • Right to protection
  • Right to recreation and recreation

We must propose that the defense of children’s rights will be present, and continue in the eradication of this type of violence, which has been presented with more intensity.

Social isolation

We call social isolation when individuals depart from the surrounding environment, remaining in their homes 24 hours a day, this mandatory isolation has been taken as a measure of prevention before the outbreak of a virus that takes the name of COVID-19 originalFrom China, which in a few months expanded by several continents in the world, thus reaching America and Latin American countries affecting Ecuador and placing us within the countries in health emergency.

The Ministry of Health through official pages has kept the community informed, the first studies carried out that it is not only a virus in singular.

Coronavirus are a wide family of viruses, some have the ability to transmit animals to people. They produce clinical paintings ranging from the common cold to more serious diseases, as with the coronavirus that caused severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars-Cov) and the coronavirus causing the Middle East respiratory syndrome (Mers-Cov). (Ministry of Public Health, 2020, first paragraph)

In this way the population must adapt to all established measures to survive, one of the most essential is isolation since avoiding sites with agglomeration low the probability of contracting this disease. Several Studies of UNICEF consider that child sexual abuse occurs more within a family environment, in which we are by prevention of the infection of COVID-19, when we meet this phenomenon in the home the victim begins to show traumas than in timeFuture are exacerbated.
