Review of the book letter to a teacher

The author of this book is very peculiar, since it does not have a single name and surname, but are the students of the Barbiana School (with the collaboration of Lorenzo Milani).

Lorenzo Milani arrived in 1954, with 31 years, to Barbiana, a hamlet that had about 40 inhabitants, located in a poor area of the mountains of El Mugello, about 45 kilometers from Florence.  From the beginning he understood the importance of organizing a popular school as the only means of getting children out of poverty and illiteracy. The classroom that organized, open ‘twelve hours a day, 365 days a year’ attended the failed students of the education system. 

In 1967 the book ‘‘ Letter to a teacher ’’ was published for the first time ’. That same year Lorenzo Milani with 44 years. Since this book was published, it has had a lot.

Milani proposes a liberating pedagogy where lower class people have the same education. As I said before, he wanted to give a opportunity for literacy to all children and minimum with eight mandatory schools. I wanted to disappear the differences that existed between them. These two children were Pierino and Gianni (mentioned above). Pierino was a high -class descendant, with a father Doctor, while Gianni was a simple son of a field worker. What the book wants to do with these two students is to make a difference between one and the other. As was the education of one, with the type of education of the other, even if they had the same teacher. The mission of the schools referred to in these children, is purely getting a title, not learning and ending the studies. The children of these are not able to understand what a newspaper says and above all have no knowledge of life. What Lorenzo Milani wants and these children writing this book is to change the education in which Gianni was a discriminated child, and create a new school where he has the same rights as Pierino. ‘‘ Tots Els Ciutadans Són Equise Sense distinction from filling ’’ ’’  

On the other hand, the Milani School is prohibited from work before the age of 15, which in that age must study. This pedagogy had three very important points and that highlights a lot in the book: not doing repeaters, to those who seem silly, teaching them in full time and the lazy ones just give them a motivation. They also talk about the type of teacher they want in their schools. They look for a teacher who is dedicated to teaching children both the poor and the rich, a teacher who motivates the students, who looks for the necessary measures for which all children have literacy and finally want to educate during the 365 days of the year. It is said that the activities should not be corrected by the teacher but that when a student has a question the teacher of the solve and if he is curious that the same teacher can solve it. The Milani School is totally formal, which is intentional and has as its objective to teach and educate all the children of the Barbiana school. This school is planned and becomes a mandatory school until the age of 15 and if then you want to continue with the studies you can. Personally, I think that Milani’s idea of creating this type of edition is very good, but I think that the idea that in the Barbiani school was not vacations, not even Sundays, it was not entirely going through children even if the children knew that workthat was much worse. Going to school was for them a privilege. The children taught, the elderly to the little ones, and who had the most difficulty was the one who fell most, was the favorite. Nor do I see feasible that the students themselves are responsible for teaching the little ones, but that they help them in everything they can.

Instead, I agree on the change they are doing. Education must be the same for all, both the poor and the rich must have the same opportunities. They want a school where children are motivated and that they attend every day with galls to learn all kinds of knowledge. And above all they want help between themselves to solve problems and get a school that everyone wants it.
