Representation of models as a strategic procedure

Introduction

Models are strategic procedures to describe or represent reality (facts, situations, phenomena, processes, structures and systems, among others), are usually based on a theory, and that usually occurs abstractly, not wishing to represent realityas, but only those most important aspects or variables. A model is a medium that is used to study reality, on the other hand, it contributes to understanding theories and laws. In order for a model to say something about the object it represents, it must be symmetrical to the real object.

Developing

Wartofsky believes that the model is a derived or represented version of something taken from the original. The models can be subjected to experimental verifications, which must allow the introduction of corrections. Experimental contrast will serve as a mechanism for adjusting. The choice of the model must be based on nature of the physical system, and very particularly in the issue that one wishes to solve.

There are several models in use and depend on the purpose they pursue, the basic models are: the iconic, analogues and symbolic. The iconic model is made a real object representation, showing the proportions and characteristics that the original object. In the analogue model it is the material representation of an object or a process to understand the origin, formation or operation, the model has a different aspect than the original, but with a representative behavior. 

As for symbolic models, they are built representing the object through mathematical coding. The importance of the model is that phenomena can be rationally studied, it must be developed through abstraction from the physical world. Being possible to apply mathematical methods to obtain mathematical conclusions that are interpreted as physical conclusions.

These conclusions can be subject to experimentation, or simply comparing with reality. The models are born with the vocation of explaining the observed facts, seeking to understand their processes, to facilitate their understanding. Likewise, models are the abstraction of reality, without having concrete physical aspects of the real entity. So the benefit in the creation of a model is the understanding that the modeler acquires the behavior of reality, in order to solve problems.
