Racism in Mexico: A problem far from solving free writing in Spanish, 1009 words
Racism in Mexico has been a big problem for many years. The color of the skin influences the opportunities and the level of study found in the people of Mexico. The darkest skin indicates an increase in difficulty in getting ahead while people who have whiter skin have more privileges such as better occupations, education and higher salaries. Racism is classified by hatred and exclusion to people from different skin tones, the language they speak or the offspring of ethnicity. Racism allows one to feel superiority over another person.
For a long time the country of Mexico has had an image of the mestizo dominating the rest of the races that lived in the country. Although many Mexicans have not named Racism, in the 19th century there were many battles between races fighting for the acceptance of traditions, religion and language (Rousell). The conflict fundamentally served as an authentic obsession. Mexico arises from the idea that we should not mix. Class and economy divisions are based on skin color and the mixture of Mexicans with different origin. These theories legitimized the problems of policies against the "Indian" that classifies them as the lowest race and class in Mexico. Mestizos are the result of American and native parents. The key is to have European blood and physical characteristics that represent someone who is mestizo. With respect to social classes in colonial years, the mestizos were representatives of a Mexican with the opportunity to study and live a successful life only for being of European parents and white skin. Although some were considered mestizos, the color of their skin said everything. If you had skin darker than the others did not matter your classification if you did not have the two characteristics of a mestizo.
The color of one is a sociocultural indicative of the geographical ancestor. More than anything racism is characterized by skin color. People who are classified with dark skin are perceived as indigenous or African descendants and people with white skin like Europeans. It is a false statement to think that the ancestor corresponds to the skin color of one. For example, indigenous ancestor people are classified as morenos. People who have different skin color are different. Racism not only happens in a work scenario, the school, or walking down the street. This is a worldwide problem that is seen even in movies. Mexican cinema consists of actors and actresses of all Mexican origin. What do not realize many are the positions that these actors receive in soap operas and movies. The most important characters such as the protagonists include beautiful, rich and white leather actors. Dark skin people are usually never chosen for these positions. Dark leather people are perceived as someone who does not have the ability to succeed in races as important characters who gain fame for their talent and physical appearances. For example, the movie "Rome" was one of the most successful films that made history winning the Oscar prize for being an actress of indigenous offspring. It is inevitable not to understand and see that racism is an immense problem. The reason why this film won alarming fame and views was because no one had won an Oscar prize of Mexican origin that was indigenous. Telenovelas and movies have the vision that the protagonist needs to be someone beautiful and white skin. Time after time this racism problem has been seen on television in telenovelas. The poor or thief are perceived as those with dark skin. Although actress Yalitza Aparicio became an icon and an image of pride for the roots of her indigenous people that did not stop the racism that she faced after her success in the film Rome.
In my opinion, racism is and will be a problem of beliefs and attitudes that exclude individuals for their appearances and characteristics. Many can argue that they are not racist, but classists. For example, people believe that their intolerance has nothing to do with the race, but that with the social class that that particular person belongs. Just because someone is studied or because they belong to a rich family does not mean that he has the right to feel superior to others. For me there is a difference between classism and racism, but they have many characteristics that indicate being racist. Just because someone is studied, director, or boss does not mean that they will be respected just like someone is all that and white and someone who is dark skinned. 55% of the population recognizes that insults others for their skin color (Maldonado). The truth is that people do not happen to him that someone can be successful with dark skin color because they have the mentality that someone with dark skin does not have the ability to make their dreams of becoming someone successful. I’m still believing that people do not want to make that they are racist even with their own people especially for the skin color of one.
It is unfair that people are discriminated against by skin color. People should make that the opportunities and ability to succeed in life should not be compared to skin color. This problem comes and is a mixture of ethnic factors especially indigenous people who are perceived as the most different from the dominant groups. Mexico is one of the countries that continually demonstrates racism and there is no guarantee that this problem stops soon. It is a multicultural and multi -ethnic country and people should see beyond the skin color of one. Little by little, as Yalitza Aparicio’s achievement, Mexico will realize that the skin color or the origin of one can stop the success that someone is layers of making.
