Racial discrimination, a disease in Latin America

To begin with, I must define what discrimination is and then I will treat my point, which is racial discrimination, although it is true there are different types of diseases called discrimination we will only treat is in particular, discrimination means selecting excluding excluding;that is, give a treatment of inferiority to people or groups, because of their ethnic or national origin, religion, age, gender, opinions, political and sexual preferences, health conditions, disabilities, marital status or other cause.

It is discriminated when, based on some unjustified and arbitrary distinction related to the characteristics of a person or their belonging to some specific group, acts or behaviors that deny people equal treatment are carried out, producing damage.

This is to give a different treatment to the people who are essence and enjoy the same rights; That different treatment generates a disadvantage or restricts a right to who receives it.

One of the characteristics of discrimination is that it is socially present behavior, you learn quickly and tend to reproduce until it becomes a daily practice. Unfortunately it is progressive, since people can be discriminated against by different causes; Its effects can accumulate and increase, producing greater damage and giving rise to new problems and greater discrimination. Evolves by adopting new forms and modalities. New situations constantly reproduce that tend to generate discriminatory behaviors.

On many occasions discrimination is due to sociocultural patterns traditionally learned and repeated, in whose transmission and perpetuation the family environment and the social environment play a very important role, since from these interactions people begin to establish selection criteria in different fields. It is common for a child to learn and repeat the egalitarian or discriminatory practices that he observes in his family environment.

This is an evil that grows until ever ends, we must stop this behavior, eliminate it from our mind and be more generous and compassionate with others, hopefully the day we are understanding and say that this is wrong.

Racism is a form of discrimination focused on biological, real or imaginary differences, which are extended to cultural or religious signs or indicators.

Racism as a social and modern fundamental phenomenon, as a set of ideologies, preconcepts, stereotypes and prejudices.

There are different kinds of racism:

  • Biological racism: they affirm that there are races whose intellectual capacity is above the other races, and that hierarchies between higher races and lower races can be established.
  • Cultural racism: talks about cultural historical superiority between some races and others, which has caused more developed civilizations than others.
  • Sexual racism: based on belonging to the female sex that has or may result in physical, sexual or psychological damage or suffering for women.
  • Child racism: It is the physical and psychological abuse of a child by an adult, also called a minor abuse, infant and/or child negligence abuse and negligence.

Now that explain the different kinds of racism, analyze whether you are causing any of these?

Why do whites believe superior to blacks? Why do most whites see a blackness think they are thieves? Why do indigenous people mistreat if they were part of our ancestors?

Unfortunately this is a current case where an African -American disregard is discriminated against, the news published this: ”The case of 46 -year -old George Floyd resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota, who died in May after the white policeman Derek Chauvin nailed him theKnee on his neck ignoring George Floyd’s supplications, he unleashed a series of demonstrations in various parts of the world."

In Latin America racism is sometimes daily for poverty, for skin color or other times for not dressing with elegant clothes. Despite miscegenation. Countries like Colombia are made up of approximately 75% mestizos. This mixture and coexistence has not avoided racism and discrimination. We can see the discrimination that is exercised in indigenous peoples, in the black islands throughout the continent. Many of these families are in conditions of extreme poverty and live in regions that seem abandoned by governments.

When they establish a hierarchy between races, it is above being considered superior, but there is another one that remains in the lowest part of the table and is to assume the paper from lower.

Racism or discrimination can cause psychological problems in which they are victims of this horrible action, it can even cause suicide to who does not support this action anymore and do not have whoever appeal.

People must be considered equal to each other and treated as equals with respect to those qualities that constitute the essence of the human being and its nature, such as dignity

The principle of equality establishes that all people have the same rights and includes the need to create the ideal conditions for those who are in a situation of inequality are guaranteed to enjoy their fundamental rights and freedoms.

Tolerance is the recognition and acceptance of differences between people. Is learning to listen to others, to communicate with them and understand them. It is the recognition of cultural diversity. Is to be open to other ways of thinking and other conceptions, openness derived from interest and curiosity, as well as refusing to reject the unknown. It is the recognition that no culture, nation or religion has the monopoly of knowledge or truth. It is a form of freedom: to be free of prejudices.

The ideal is to train citizens in knowledge, understanding, and respect for the diverse existing cultures through the increase in their communication and interaction capacities that promote attitudes favorable to different ideas, it is definitely the formation of values andattitudes (respect for people and their cultures, fight against all kinds of discrimination) of solidarity. Basic attitudes that can be summarized in the positive assessment of one’s identity, as well as that of the culture of others.

A way to end this thought are the schools, which form, educate us and can provide us with the tool to eliminate this disease, I found an appointment that says the following.

The school can do something about it. But it would be naive to believe that the school will get this goal alone. It seems, therefore, essential that, together with a school task of awareness, deficits and inequalities compensation, personal and cultural integration, there is also a political task that racism, xenophobia and discrimination in all its amplitude. Without this political parameter, the school does not have excessive guarantees of success (Puig Rovira, 1992, cited in Meroño, 1996: 28).

It is true that school helps us in part to change this thought that is present in our society, as well as policies that help us strongly to make this change, in short it is a path that together we must travel to generate a change, a positive changeTo our society and the world.
