Professionalism in the Medical Area
Introduction
With the passage of time the exercise of medicine has been modified due to the sociocultural, political, economic and technological tensions that exist today. This is why, currently in the medical social contract, professionalism is not only the basis but mainly a structurally stabilizing and morally protective force of society.
Generally when we talk about a professional doctor, we imagine a prepared person, full of knowledge and values such as autonomy and self-regulation, which often makes them higher beings who always have the last word, very serious and full of knowledge. At the time we really face the medical field as patients.
Developing
In those unfavorable situations that make us vulnerable and that we call disease, the only thing we expect from a doctor;For us and for our relatives, he is an integral person, with the aforementioned characteristics and many others even more important such as respect, transparency, the search for the common good, honesty and empathy, qualities that make thedoctors in real professionals and complete people capable of changing the lives of others.
On the occasions in which I have been patient or I have accompanied my relatives to medical consultations I have had the opportunity to show little professional behaviors and integrity failures of many doctors who, for example, discredit the concerns of their patients making comments as I do not understand whytheir wrinkles or skin spots concern.
If since we are born we are aging or that they do not have the delicacy of asking about our names, feelings, that do not explain to their patients procedures that are going to be done or that are interested in performing treatments or diagnostic tests that generate a lot of fear and anguish inThe patient and their families only with an economic purpose.
One of the most shocking experiences and that demonstrates a great lack of professionalism and integrity by medical staff a few years ago when my 80-year-old vis-of the Aneurysm in the abdominal aorta. During the diagnosis of this pathology it was necessary.
The exam was done normally, but my grandmother’s creatinine was never reviewed before performing this procedure and soon I enter a renal failure that left her with a daily dialysis for the next 2 years of her life. I actually believe that it is understandable when medical errors are generated, finally those who for many are gods who save our lives are human beings who run out, forget things and make mistakes just like us mortal.

What is not right is when a professional does not behave at height and when he is not an integral person who puts the well -being of his patient above all, when he is not empathetic, he does things of eagerness and skips steps from theProcedures to obtain economic benefits and even harms it for the rest of his life, when he attacks his apprentices, he is disrespectful and indifferent.
Finally, professionalism is a way to apply the results of technological and scientific progress for the benefit of society;It is more than an action oriented to the equitable distribution of a good and health care so it is much more than mere scientific knowledge and implies great preparation in the ethical and moral field that allows the doctor to be an integral person andfull of qualities that allow him to be the best professional who can not only with his patients but with all those around him.
