Power and greed in man

Introduction

Man is a social being by nature, Aristotle begins this debate that follows from knowing between power and authority. All men are social beings by nature, but to live in community and get some purposes you need to start from norms. These rules are those that are established through the political power by which people’s behavior is ordered as members of a society, since they have sufficient force to establish that behavior in a society.

The main function of this political power is the organization of social life, through law, but as I have already mentioned the good use of these norms in a united society is what will determine the well -being of this, as Jean saidFrom the fontaine any power if it is not based on the union, it is weak.

Developing

Now, it is worth mentioning the distinction between power and authority, since there are two different concepts employed most of the time to refer to the same. Power is the ability to exercise justice, the ability to act on each other with a common purpose, and, therefore, ability to influence the behavior of others. Justice is the main virtue of those who possess power, because only the one who has power is able to redistribute the assets in the most fair possible way.

Authority, on the other hand, is not a capacity, but is a skill, ability to exercise in the behavior of others but without necessarily united in society with a usual purpose. You can understand how the power to sanction the behaviors that violate the law or the power that emerges from knowledge, together with prestige. In summary, the authority could be defined as the level of influence that an individual has on a society or a prestige acquired by a person when standing out in a certain function. Therefore, authority is a power, but not all power is authority, since for example there is the authority of a teacher, who does not become power.

Power is not something material that you can buy or exchange, power is something that is gained and acquired according to the confidence that the other components of society over you contribute. Consequently, power is not guided by money or fame, but is guided by knowledge. For example, a fair society must keep in mind the common good of its components, for this one of the members that integrate it, consequently, the person or people with the power of a society must know each of thepersonal, economic, family, etc., of its members, in order to achieve social welfare.

Power can be acquired by anyone, it is true that some men acquire power without really doing anything, either because of their fame, for their family, etc., But this is because society gives it much importance allowing then aspiring to power. So why do people want power? Being in charge of something is attractive, since in some way you aspire to obtain more freedom by having control, but it is that power does not allow more freedom than any other individual, therefore, aspiring towards power is determined in a wayconfusing.

What people want is to have authority and autonomy that does more freedom, having no one to tell you what you should do and the norms that must be followed, also benefits individual well -being by having the freedom to take your owndecisions and not make them under a regulatory regime of power. But, people who aspire to power do not always seek a common purpose for society, but are guided more for their own good, giving rise to what is considered abuse of power.

conclusion

The abuse of power is characterized by taking advantage of the authority to fulfill its own interests regardless of the rest of society. One of the clearest examples of the abuse of power is the politician, with totalitarian regimes and dictatorships. How Plato said when it is the crowd that exercises his authority, it is more cruel than the tyrants.

In short, power lies in oursThose who abuse power, but in reality we are all equal. The members of society deposit their confidence in an individual, because apparently they have something that is essential to us, it may be that it is only overvaluation of society or that power is really adopted correctly in society. In short, if not all authority is power, power is not just authority.
