Peace Treaty: United States of America and the Kingdom of Spain

Introduction.

At the end of the 19th century, there was a crisis because the bank was paralyzed. We find a low economic level because GDP at the time was very low regarding normal. In the second half of the 18th century three wars took place in Cuba 1868-78, 1879-80 and 1895-98. In 1898 a serious situation of the Cuba War and was known as the 1898 disaster was known.

That year was disastrous for Spain, for the numerous political and economic consequences that were triggered after this conflict. The trigger was the outbreak of one of his war vessels that was anchored in Havana Bay, which is known as El Maine. This resulted in many deaths and this began the war, but prior to this there were differences between Spain and the United States, since the latter supported the independence of Cuba. The interests of both countries were different.

These facts began the Latin American war. America threw the faults of Spain from the outbreak of the Maine, while it is showing through evidence that it was not Spain’s fault, but had been for other varied causes. After this, two analyzes and studies were done, one was done by Spain and the United States, to see what really happened. They did not do a joint investigation, since Americans did not want. It was shown that Spain was not the culprit, but despite that these two countries were faced, and the war was unavoidable.

Developing.

The United States notified Spain to leave the island of Cuba, but Spain did not want. Cuba contributed financial aid to Spain. Prior to the Cuba War, the occasional conflict had already happened, which led Spain to a political and economic crisis. There were several causes that happened and that led to the war of Cuba such as the dissatisfaction of society, since there were no benefits for all, but only benefited a few, and Cuba could not develop at an economic level.

But Cuba felt alone, but upon receiving support from the United States, he felt more strongly and to be able. It caused consequences for both countries, but they turned out to be worse for Spain, since it lost the battle. The worst consequence was the loss of the colony of Cuba and everything that disappeared with it. To all this, we must add the deceased and important material damage. Spain was devastated and destroyed with resources and therefore could not continue with this war.

Spain I cannot remain with the control of the other colonies that it had under its supervision and domain, so it had to give them to the USA. UU. And also economic, social and demographic losses for both countries. Spain was defeated, since these did not know how to deal with the war against the United States because they did not have enough and adequate means. Nor were they in conditions for the confrontation. The United States had many more aid and support than Spain.

This situation of instability will be modified when Alfonso XIII arrives in 1902, which will seek to change this situation solving the problems that have happened until then, although it will lead to numerous crises and even worse than the previous ones. Finally, both countries agreed to sign the peace treaty on December 10, 1898 in Paris. It was what ended the Spanish -American war. Philippines was delivered to the United States while Puerto Rico and Guam became US possessions. Spain had no other solution to accept what the United States imposed.

In this treaty, Spain renounced the rights of sovereignty and property on Cuba. The most important articles were the I, II and III, which I have already explained during the text, there were also others such as that United States had to admit in the first ten years in the ports of the Philippines Islands, Spanish vesselsAnd this was article IV. Although in total there was seventeen, and each proposed a different thing. Spain was afraid that the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, etc.

What this treaty intended was to end this war and avoid problems between these countries. An agreement was reached between the two countries to sign the treaty. It was made with the aim that this situation would not go anymore and ended worse and more serious consequences. EE. UU. offered Spain $ 20 million for the territories that he wanted.

What these articles collected was more satisfactory to the United States, although Spain had nothing else to do to stick to the consequences, since no matter how much Spain I would not want to accept everything that the United States proposed to him, he had to do it to not have greaterlosses and finish worse than I was already and lose other important territories.

Peace and well -being between these countries were intended, and that each one could develop properly and increase economic levels. The end was to end all these disputes, which had been conflict for years. After this there was a time of greater stability in politics and economics. During later years, both countries would try to rescue everything that was lost. And this treaty did not allow any country as a Philippines, to join, but it was a two agreement.

It was necessary to have a world peace that ended in the well -being of all, since many conflicts were had many years and new tragedies had to be avoided. Thanks to this treaty, despite stopping new conflicts that could arise, both the United States and Spain, could follow their own path, improving the quality and standard of living of the entire population and developing properly.

So this treaty provided greater security and comfort to the population. This confrontation, at first, seemed not to have great economic losses, but in the long term the opposite was demonstrated, since neither raw materials nor practically food from the island no longer arrived. From the political point of view, it resulted in the crisis of the restoration system.

conclusion.

My opinion about all this is that it was good to make a peace treaty because in the end Spain was going to end up losing many more possessions such as the Canary Islands, and the Balearic Islands. It was very necessary to stop with this great conflict that would end up being devastating if not for this treaty. Although it does not seem good to me that the articles benefit more to the United States than to Spain, it should be the same for both.

Being faced with the United States means safe losses for Spain, being one of the most important countries and the first world power due to its wealth and everything it has in its possession. Therefore, it does not benefit more clashes against that country since we would always end up losing, for these reasons it was so necessary to carry out this peace treaty.
