Organizational Analysis of McDonald ’S and his story

McDonald’s is a fast food company created in 1940 by the brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. During their early years they focused on the sale of orange juices, hot dogs, etc. until they realized that the highest percentage of profits came from hamburgers. This aspect led to the objective of the company, oriented to the concept of fast food. Despite this, its qualitative success was between 1950 and 1955 thanks to the vision of the Ray Kroc Executive, managing to convince the brothers to open more franchises. Today, McDonald’s is a fast food leader and has managed to obtain a high world presence.

Analyzing the history of McDonald’s we can see how the McDonald brothers managed to think of a great idea, but because of their lack of vision they failed to expand. Instead, Kroc managed to see the company’s potential and sought the expansion of this, that is, he had vision. With this we can affirm that the McDonald brothers represent the definition of managers and Kroc, both the leader and the manager.

For the McDonald brothers it was important to expand their business, create franchises to generate more income without having to inaugurate more restaurants. With this in mind, the brothers, in 1952, tried to implement their idea, but failed. Dick and Mac were good managers, they managed to do the efficient job, reduce costs and increase margins in the company. The problem was in his lack of leadership, with a long -term vision.

On the other hand, Ray Kroc. Thanks to his skills as his leader, he managed to convince and inspire the brothers with that vision to make her reality. Between 1955 and 1959, 100 restaurants were opened. And for 1961 Ray bought the exclusive rights of McDonald’s carrying it, four years later, to open more than 500 restaurants in the United States. Following Simon Sinek’s gold theory, management is what and leadership why. If you only have the "what", the movements that can be done are being seen and if, on the contrary, you have only the "why" only an enthusiasm without tangible results are obtained. For this reason, Kroc is an excellent example of the mixture between manager and leader, for being someone who not only saw what could become McDonald’s in the future but also had enthusiasm to realize his vision.

McDonald’s can be considered as an open system, because he interacts with his environment, which provides him with necessary resources with which he manages to finish his activity. As characteristics of this system we find that there is an interrelation or interdependence of the environment; We also find a hierarchy or subsystems such as kitchen, box, area managers, maintenance and safety, which makes work divided to become effective; It also has equifinality, since the system will always seek to adapt to different situations in which it is involved in order to achieve its goals and objectives. Today the company has more than 36.000 restaurants in more than 100 countries, but to achieve their foray into the rest of the world they had to adapt to what society asked for. In a nutshell, they analyzed the cultures of the countries and adapted to them.
