Introduction

This work of Octavio Paz tells us about the Mexican, of what forms it and makes it as it is, of those characteristics so distinctive and particular, of those festivities, words and attitudes that make it, likewise about that story that It marked endless aspects and a complete trajectory in the Mexican, in each of the essays it shows how Mexico was progressing over the years.

Developing

Octavio Paz makes a complete tour and mentions various issues such as psychological, cultural, morals, historical ones in order to create a national identity. In the course of the book and each of the essays it is visualized how the author speaks very deeply and investigates too much in all aspects, tries to make clear what the idea is and allows the reader to have a different perspective. From the first chapter where he addresses the theme of the Pachucos you have a clear idea that his goal is to define and understand.

When mentioning Mexican the author includes from the Creole, the mestizo, the indigenous, the chilango, the northern and many more, trying to reach a study and giving that vision that the Mexican has a long extension that forms it, however to the end is proudly saying that all this make up the Mexican.

In all this study, the author does not simply want to see the Mexican as Mexican, but as someone who is history, who is poetry, who is philosophy, traumas, pain, errors and freedom. The author makes you see the Mexican as a being with own and distinctive qualities that make him highlight and be so different from others, but he also shows you those defects and masks that he possesses, giving a complete vision. For him in the course of each of his essays it is important to question the approach of what are Mexicans and that makes them so different? And that is why in reading we always try to highlight those comparisons that make us so different, from culture to moral.

In this chapter we are told about the stay he had in Los Angeles which allowed him to analyze the Mexicans who were there and compare them with the Americans. Starting then his analysis is with various issues and defines what is known as Pachuco, which was what he could visualize and define how those who emigrate and lose their inheritance, their language, their religion, their customs and beliefs.

He says that the Pachucos are those that although for a long time they are mixed among the Americans will not lose that Mexican essence, although they are no longer interested in carrying it and acquire habits that normally distinguish Americans, this due to being beings that simply have A more furtive and restless air. The Pachuco does not want to return to everything he composes as Mexican, but he also does not want to be part of the American. There is a part in which he mentions that what they carry is a costume, which he does not really affirm and does not defend, but also, only affirms the exasperated will not to be.

He also talks about the irritation that is seen in the American when it comes to Pachuco and mentions that it is because Pachuco basically does not try in some way to make laugh, but on the contrary, what he seeks is to terrorize and thereby be able to defend himself. While Americans visualize it as a dangerous being. Therefore, although Pachuco wants to be able to enter society, he himself is the one that makes it a clumsy attempt, since he tries with an attitude of challenging.

conclusion

This chapter seemed very interesting, personally I had never heard the term Pachuco and less the definition so specific that Octavio Paz gives. It is curious the true fact that Mexicans even if we try to go unnoticed or leave our roots behind, there is always something that distinguishes us and gives us that Mexican touch and that particular air that distinguishes us so well from the Americans. I have personally visualized it and I agree with it, really all this chapter seemed very enjoyable and interesting.
