The promulgation of Jones Act in 1917 granted US citizenship to Puerto Ricans. After Puerto Ricans became citizens, the US military conscription included the Puerto Rican population.

Developing

The Second World War. The number of Puerto Ricans in military effort increases to 65,034 largely due to the military and naval bases that the United States has located in the Puerto Rican Islands. Puerto Rican soldiers, such as African -American and Japanese soldiers, were test subjects to experience chemicals that would possibly be used in war. Presence of military bases in Puerto Rico have created an atmosphere full of danger (toxins) and deterioration for the Puerto Rican population. From 1941 to 2003, Vieques was used for military exercises that include, but are not limited to bombing exercises. In Vieques, disease figures have increased in a shocking way. Some believe that these diseases are because of the military base, since it has thrown the penetration of toxic materials and radiation. The US government has not been responsible for this disease crisis in Vieques.  The American National Guard has focused on the military recruitment of young people who are part of an ethnic or racial minority.  This approach not only affects the portorriqueños in the United States but also those who live on the island.

conclusion

US military history in Puerto Rico is one that has contributed largely to the power that the United States military force today has. This story has had and still has negative consequences for the Puerto Rican population. When the Jones Act was implemented, the United States was in need of more soldiers, was this the main reason why Puerto Ricans received US citizenship? Why have no government studies be done to address the issue of toxins and radiation that they put and currently put the population of Vieques at risk?
