The dominant characteristics include a good education, financial stability, spiritual, self-confident and reliable among others. Both men and women seem to be seeking partners who are earning more than they are. Despite coding the topic as ‘personal characteristics,' it seems more inclined to financial issues more than any other. The findings from the research will assist in getting to know what interests African American men when looking for a marriage partner and why they prefer them. Barr, A. B., Simons, R. Cohabiting is the most dominant relationship. Some of those not in relationships considered marriage important to them while others had other determining factors such as not wanting to be committed to any relationship. The findings reveal the actual face of the young adults and attitude towards marriage.
