Literary comparisons between Shakespeare’s works

Introduction.

Shakespeare is one of the most famous theater writers in history. His writings contain a variation of topics and complex language. This essay contains a comparison and a contrast between the work, tasting the fierecilla and the film, ten things that I hate of you. The tamed fierecilla is based on the conquest of Bianca’s hand between Hortensio, Gremio and Lucentio. They need to find a husband for their older sisters so that any of them wins the love of Bianca.

The older sister is a cunning girl who is known for her bad attitude, sharp language and other qualities that are unusual in a woman of that time. Luckily, they find a man who can domesticate her, a man who is only interested in money. 10 things I hate about you is a movie in which Cameron falls in love with Bianca, but to get to her, a man needs to go out with his older sister. Then Cameron and Michael decided to elaborate a plan to bribe Patrick, the bad boy from school.

The bribe consisted of going out with Kat, Bianca’s older sister; But things change when Patrick begins to fall in love with her. Both the film and the work contain a very similar plot, since one is written by Shakespeare and the other is a modern adaptation of the work. Taming of The Shrew is a play written in the fifteenth century, comparing it with the movie Ten things that I hate of you belong to the 21st century and obtains a different perspective on the family relationship and how the female role is elaborated.

Developing.

Taming of The Shrew, is a play written in the fifteenth century, comparing it with the movie Ten things that I hate of you belong to the 21st century and obtains a different perspective on the family relationship and how the female role is elaborated.

The differences and similarities between them go beyond the plots that we can observe through the adaptation of the characters. Some of the most familiar characters are Bianca Stratford and Bianca Minola; Both women are egocentric and only focus on one thing, which is their beauty. But, there is a slight change, in the movie, 10 things that I hate of you, she decides to change her egocentric forms at the time a relationship with Cameron begins.

Cameron James, who plays Lucentio’s role in the film, also falls in love with Bianca at the time he sees her. Another similarity that is in the film and the book is the moment when you give private classes to Bianca to get your attention; But in the way they execute it, it is very different. In the work, Lucentio disguises himself as a school teacher; While you are in the movie, Cameron pretends to be a French tutor, when he really doesn’t even dominate the language. Another main character that is mostly similar is Katherina in Taming of The Shrew and Kat of the movie.

These two characters play the role of Bianca’s older sister; Both are known for being sharp and feminist. There are other small differences that vary; For example in the movie, when Kat accepts that she is in love with Patrick Verona, who plays the role of Petruchio, a young man who arrives in Padua in search of a girlfriend. They also share other similarities, both in the film and in the work, both characters accept a bribe; But each one has a different reason, one receives it, if he gets Kate to marry him and the other if he gets Kat to go out with him.

The difference is that Petruchio only marries Kate for money, while Patrick then understands that he loves Kat and realizes that he did wrong when accepting and saving the bribes. Kate and Bianca’s father’s name, in the work, is Baptist. He is known for being a rich man in Padua. Baptista is in search of a man for a man who is willing to marry her eldest daughter and restricts the child to marry until he does.

The film, who plays this role is Walter Stratford; He, as a baptist, establishes the rule that Bianca can’t leave until Kat does. He always tells Bianca to look more like Kat, while in the work, Baptista tells Kate to look more like Bianca. The character that helps Lucentio in his search for the love of Bianca is Tranio, in the work;Michael, in the movie. In both cases, Michael or Tranio helps Lucentio to plan how to get to Bianca and convince the bribed to go out with Kate.

The only additional detail is that of the film, where Michael has an appointment for the graduation dance that is full of references to Shakespeare called Mandella. In the work, Hortensio is the one that convinces Petruchio that he accepts bribery; In the film, Hortensio is represented by Joey, who talks with Patrick. Joey and Hortensio both strive to get Bianca’s love, but they failed. Joey is a confident model and his appearance will attract Bianca, and Hortensio disguises himself as a music teacher to get the love of Bianca. There are many more characters who do not participate in the film, even when they have a special role in the work.

Some of the characters whose important roles are missing are Bionello, Grimio, Vincentio, where Michael has an appointment for graduation dance that is full of references to Shakespeare called Mandella. In the work, Hortensio is the one that convinces Petruchio that he accepts bribery; In the film, Hortensio is represented by Joey, who talks with Patrick. The plots are mainly reflected in the relationships between the characters, including those that change throughout the work or the film. The difference between relationships can affect different things, such as audience attention or can be poorly oriented during the course of the plot. One of the most important relations of the work is what exists between Kate and Petruchio; It is known that Kate is the most cunning woman in all of Padua and she is the duty of Petruchio domesticate her.

In your relationship, there are no signs of love or affection on any sides. In the same way, this relationship helps to reflect on the opinion of the time, in which the only work of women was to serve man, while man marries to satisfy his benefits. But, in 10 things that I hate of you, Patrick and Kat have a different type of relationship, even if the characters are based on the original. The relationship between them begins as a difficult beginning, Kat is fighting on whether or not to trust Patrick, while Patrick only has eyes for money. Surprisingly, they end with a relationship full of love, compassion and happiness.

Continuing with the plot of the film, Cameron and Bianca’s relationship begins one of interest, but this only on the side of Cameron. Bianca only sees Cameron as a friend and a tutor. , Bianca realizes that Joey is not the boy for her and chooses Cameron, the relationship goes to a lovely one, worried. Differently, Lucentio and Bianca begin with a relationship in which both feel attraction to each other, in which they even marry in secret. Another important relationship is Baptist’s relationship with his daughters. First, Baptista’s relationship with Bianca is very communicative, protective, and is proud of his interest in his studies.

In comparison, Kate’s relationship with her father is not so good. Baptista loves her, but her strong attitude affects him, even so, she cares about her and looking for a man for her. On the same subject, the relationship between the sisters is not successful. Kate lives jealous of Bianca’s beauty and because Bianca is her father’s favorite. This relationship, in the film, begins full of discord, but improves as the plot progresses. The main relationships form and describe history, also help readers to learn beyond what the text can tell us. The relationship between the sisters is not successful.

conclusion.

In conclusion, Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You, describes the audience of his time. The tamed fierecilla reflects the role of the man of his time that is to send the woman and marry only for their benefits, and the role of women is to serve the man. In addition, parents want to get married quickly with their daughters to have a strong and respected man who takes care of them. On the other hand, 10 things that I hate of you reflect in favor of the feminist and equality, that men are the ones who have to change for women. Similarly, the relationship only works through love. Parents want their daughters to be mature, independent and professionals before marrying. Both stories successfully satisfy the audience without depending on what time or society are reading it.
