Inequality in schools between boys and girls
Introduction
This essay focuses on social inequalities between boys and girls, in addition to a difference especially on children’s performance, all this from an interpretive framework such as sociology.
The gender difference and especially the idea that girls are better at certain points has been in debate for various intellectuals, sociologists, pedagogues, etc.
The document that I am going to analyze consists of a very simple structure in the first part, I will proceed to provide an explanation to the performance differences that children have.
Finally, I will provide a final conclusion on the foregoing from a part with scientific check.
Developing
First, I will go on to deal with the issue of the relationship between families and school, one of the most important factors and one of the most discussed issues regarding children.
In the past, these relationships used to be considered from the perspective of the division of functions, noting that the family was the institution responsible for the socialization of children and the school responsible for knowledge teaching.
Therefore, in fact, in recent decades, the school has begun to assume the work of primary socialization that corresponds to the family, at the same time that technology has also provided, learning opportunities.
Many countries have carried out reforms aimed at including parents in the decision -making bodies of the educational system and considering participatory education as a requirement of a democratic system. Therefore, in the family-school relationship, the discontent with the results has been generalized, because in most cases it is impossible to involve families. Participation structures and total cooperation between family and school did not materialize, making parents participation more formal than formal participation. (State School Board, 2014).
Concepts
The first of them and one of the most important is: the differential socialization of gender from which a PISA report stands out; That among students with the highest grades, the gender gap is biased towards children in mathematics and science.
On the contrary, girls have an excellent reading capacity. If you consider that girls spend more time doing the homework and are higher among the best students, then the gender gap will increase. The performance difference depends on the country / region and is related to inequality in that country.
Countries with better performance such as Shanghai, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan do not have a gender gap in mathematics.
Another of the concepts that are developed is that of the hidden curriculum, something that also influences academic performance. The hidden curriculum, therefore, are the unwritten lessons, values, values and perspectives.
The video also reflects the term androcentrism although it is not expressed as such, this term in terms of the performance of boys and girls what they want to express is treat men as the center of the universe, as a measure of everything.
The last term that can be reflected in the video is the traditional or hegemonic masculinity that what it wants to reflect is the way of expressing the male gender, a way of legitimizing patriarchy, that is, a way to ensure male domain and the female subordination.
conclusion
The final conclusion that I get on the video raised for this essay is that what is observed in it is a rather large gender difference with respect to one sex and another, which is reflected in the change of baby’s clothes and that can influence at school if there is no remedy. I think that an equality should be sought that is starting to be seen, but, there is still much to change. On the other hand, I think that this work can help me for the future, since my profession is a very important part of the life and influence of children.
