When we talk about cognitive development we refer to the emergence of the ability to think and understand, it is the construction of thought processes that include memory, problem solving and decision -making from childhood to adolescence and adulthood. It refers to how the person perceives and thinks about about her world through information processing, intelligence, reasoning, language development and memory.
When we talk about reading comprehension, we refer to the act of deciphering the letter code so that it has meaning and thus an understanding of the text will occur. Reading understanding has been defined in numerous ways depending on the approach.
In the cognitive approach, reading comprehension has been considered as a product and as a process. Thus, understood as a product would be the result of the interaction between the reader and the text. This product is stored in long -term memory (MLP) that will then be evoked when asking the questions about the material read. In this perspective, long -term memory and information access routines charge a very relevant role, and determine the success or degree of achievement that the reader may have.
We cannot deny that the reading skills of a child are important for their success in school, work and life in general, our communication depends completely on our ability to use language, numerous difficulties have been explained due to lack or insufficiency of skills to read comprehensively.
