IMPACT OF DIGITALIZATION IN THE MUSICAL INDUSTRY

In the last twenty years new guidelines have been expressed around the future of the economy, promoted by the emergence of new technologies. In his book on the fourth industrial revolution, Economist Schwab (2017, P.8) He said that "we are evidencing deep changes in all industries, marked by the appearance of new business models, the irruption of operators and the remodeling of production, consumption, transport and delivery systems".

In addition, digitalization has meant a metamorphosis in relation to traditional consumption habits: “In the social sphere, a paradigm shift is being given on how we work and communicate, just like how we express ourselves, we inform ourselves and entertain ourselves."

The music industry has been one of the most affected by this impact. On the one hand, there has been a “defrageation of the album in singles” (Márquez, 2013) reflecting a business opportunity for streaming platforms, currently considered as the main source of income for renowned record records such as Universal Music or Sony Music, leaving behind the sale of compact discs, vinyl and cassettes. On the other hand, certain stigmas have been generated in the mentality of the current music consumer due to various cultural changes that have been the origin of multiple factors to consider when creating new music. Therefore, the dependency relationships that occurred between a record label and an artist have experienced an adaptation process thanks to new media such as social networks, attainable from a greater impact in less time, thus increasing the probability of success.

Likewise, it is worth highlighting the concept of “musical globalization”, a term coined in 2001 after a meeting of experts in Amsterdam belonging to the CIAM (International Council of Music Creators), responsible for protecting and promoting the rights of music creators throughout theworld. FREGA (2001), in an article for the newspaper La Nación argues that "this" globalized "cultural manifestation has also generated some facts worthy of analysis. In the first place, it determined the configuration of a globalized expressive language, that is, provided with a significance that transcends the geographical and cultural areas in which it has originated.”Globalized music has based one of the solid bases of the music industry since its origins, being increasingly widespread as part of a common and identifying culture, high -income generator.
