Gulliver’s trips: Jonathan Swift’s prose satire

Gulliver’s trips is considered (for many), as Jonathan Swift’s masterpiece which was published in London in 1726 and was currently considered and considers a literature classic.  This story shows four sections (four chapters) in which each of the parties recounts a new adventure in which in the end shows the defects that Swift saw in society. The book begins with the best known in which Gulliver nothing and ends in Liliput a city in which the inhabitants measure 6 inches and things are tiny for Gulliver. During his stay in this country Gulliver becomes friends with the mayor. Since for them Gulliver was a giant the emperor requests his help to be able to overcome his enemies of Blefuscu. That said access and thanks to its size it catches the navy of its enemies. However, in Liliput Gulliver as well as friends they had enemies who wanted to make losing their sight since they could not execute it because of their size. A friend informs Gulliver and fortunately manages. Hence a ship took him back to England.

The second adventure starts when Gulliver decides to sail again. However, Gulliver ends on Brobdingnag Island. On the contrary of the Liliputians and their miniature size those of Brobdingnag were giants, who see Gulliver as a curious artifact. Glumdalclitch’s father, a girl who becomes affectionate to Gulliver, becomes his first owner who uses him to earn money at a fair. Catching the queen’s attention, she decides to keep Gulliver along with Glimdalclich to teach her her language and customs. After several days and even years, in which he spoke with the king of England and ran dangers, he decided to leave.

After being in England, your third trip begins. This occasion, the pirates with whom they travel leave it on an island. Sitting on this island, suddenly, sees something above it which was an island known as laputa. Gulliver Seeing this, asks for help, and the inhabitants of laputa help him upload to that island. The inhabitant dedicated themselves to mathematics and music. However, equations cause difficulty in matters that are important. A continent (island) known as Balnibarbi that also visited Gulliver ruined the farms of the inhabitants of laputa. On this trip, as well as visit Glubbdubdrib, an island on which they had sorcerers. These explain that they could relive people like ghosts, so Gulliver decided to do it with historical characters. Also within this trip, Visit Luggnagg, an island with a king and immortal people which is horrible. Finally, he arrived in Japan and returns to England. His stay in England was not very long when he decided to undertake with another trip being the ship’s captain. Despite this, the sailors, leave it on a desert island. On this island were two "species" the Yahoos, who were rude, and liars; And the Houyhnhnms, who were like horses. They govern on this island and have no meanings for humans. While on the other side the Yahoos are like human beings, but they have not "evolved".In the country of the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver understands how detestable humans can be. He adapts so much to the life of the Houyhnhnms, that at the time they tell him he leaves, he denies, since he did not want to return to live with the Yahoos.

Finally, Gulliver accesses and leaves the country of the Houyhnhnms. Preserving his horror towards humans, he was about to jump from the ship that took him home. When Gulliver arrives with his family, to think that he had a link with a yahoo and have children Yahoo caused him disgusting. Gulliver, he adapts little by little and again to humans. Although he was still disappointed for not meeting the Houyhnhnms. For me personally it seemed a fun and interesting story, in which you can enjoy every adventure and feel in it. Learn that in the end we live in a world where ugly things will happen and you have to learn to face it.
