Guernica and the difficulty in understanding and deciphering this painting

Guernica is an oil painting on a large canvas that is 11 ′ 6 ″ x 25 ′ 6 ″. It is true that it is not easy to decipher this painting. You can see many parts to have death. You can see there is a woman, shouting with pain and grief, holding the lifeless body of her dead son. This is one of the most devastating and unforgettable images of painting. The head and body of a great white bull, is the only unharmed figure and not traumatized in painting. Under the woman, a man appears dead or injured with a cut arm. You can also see a mutilated hand grabbing a broken sword. Picasso only made his head and arms visible. The rest of his body is placed and dispersed around the paint . In the center there is a terrified horse, with an open mouth and shouting with pain, with the side crossed by a spear. On the right there are three more women. One hastened, looking at the rigid pump at the top of the scene.

Another can be seen by the window of a house on fire, with its extended and long arm holding a lamp, while the third woman appears trapped in the building on fire, shouting of fear and horror. All their faces are distorted by agony. The eyes are dislocated, the mouth open, the tongues are shaped like dagas. It is necessary that people do not forget this event.

Some critics warn against trusting the political message in Guernica. For example, the furious bull, a main reason for destruction here, has been thought, either like a bull or minotaur, like the ego of Picasso. However, in this case, the bull represents the onslaught of fascism. Picasso said that brutality and darkness meant. He also declared that the horse represented the people of Guernica. Since, Picasso himself, declared the meaning of painting obviously there is no discussion about the possibility of an hidden expression towards his ego in animals.

Picasso saw him as a simple call to people to see how evil was the event for those people and animals. He said: ‘In the panel in which I am working, which Guernica called, I clearly expressed my hatred for the military caste that has plunged Spain into an ocean of pain and death’. Some images, such as the horse and the bull, are interpreted in many ways by scholars. The scholars see them as the representation of the mortal battle between the Republican fighters (such as El Horse) and the bull as Franco’s fascist army. Despite its interpretation, Picasso himself said, only the meaning of the bull as darkness and brutality, while giving the public the freedom to see it from his own perspective.
