This story is about the life of Holden Caulfield. Holden is a young man who has just been communicated that he has been expelled from the Pencey Institute to suspend all subjects, except language, which is the only one that is good. What leads him to have only three days to tell his parents before the director, but instead he decideshis notes but also for his misconduct. Holden, before collecting his things he will say goodbye to his history teacher and he wishes him good luck after teaching him his disastrous exam.

Upon arriving in the room he has a talk with Ackley, a little strange young man who lives in the next room, until his roommate, Stradlater arrives, telling him that Jane Gallagher is her new conquest. This comment bothers Holden quite a lot, since this girl liked it a lot in the past, they were about to kiss, but for what seems to be liked today. While Stradlater is in his appointment with Jane, Holden makes his roommate on his little brother, Allie, who died of leukemia three years ago. The writing speaks specifically about Allie’s left -handed baseball glove.
In which some poems were written on green pen. For Holden, there was a very special person for him for that the day he died broke all the garage windows with his hand and broke it. From that moment Holden cannot close the entire fist. When his roommate returns from his encounter, Holden tries to find out if something was out of tune between the two, but he does not answer him, which makes Holden get angry and start saying things that make Stradlater get angryand hit him a fist that makes his nose blood.

Not drinking only soft drinks realized that all people around them were dumb and unbearable, especially women. Among this group of people was his brother’s former, an interested party, so Holden decides to leave that site. As soon as you get to the hotel, while I was about to enter the elevator, the elevator asks if the services want a prostitute for five dollars half an hour. Holden even though he is not eager because he is a virgin, he also accesses. After a while a prostitute named Sunny appears in his room but Holden instead of being prepared to do so.

The next day Holden still does not know what to do with his life, but since he is a man who moves for impulses he decides to call a special friend, Sally, and he agrees to stay with him. Holden was quite bored for what decides to go to breakfast around.
On the train he meets two very nice nuns with which he has a pleasant conversation. Then he decides to buy an album for his sister Phoebe and takes a walk where he meets quite funny children. When the encounter with Sally finally arrives, they decide to go to the theater. On the way they had a loving encounter, but after the theater the thing did not end very well. They went to an ice skating track, where they fell ridiculously because none knew how to skate well, so they ended up taking something in the cafeteria. During the Holen conversation he proposes Sally to escape together, but he refuses.
After that denial Holden ends up talking badly, and the conversation ends with Sally’s cries. As Holden continues to feel alone he decides to call an old friend and stay with him to have drinks, but he leaves him planted. When leaving the bar he has a tremendous desire to call his sister Phoebe, so he decides to go see her, the problem is that they can’t see his parents, then he decided to sneak out a window. He had a conversation with her and told how depressed he was and that expelled him again, for this last comment she rebukes him. The next visit was to his professor Mr. Antolini, who offered him lodging.

This visit ended when Holden woke up and found his professor making caresses in his hair, which led to the conclusion that it was a pervert. After these events Holden was depressed on the train, and decides to escape west. But he can’t go saying without his sister Phoebe, so he leaves a letter telling her everything and she decides to go with him. After seeing her so happy Holden makes the decision to keep her and not escape. This is what Holden tells that happened to him in a time in a hospital for health issues.
