Gender identity in Peru

Gender identity is very important in the formation of people, especially as we grow, since it relates to many aspects of our life as it is in the way we feel and live our body. Why does gender identity often confuse sexual orientation? Well, both terms are closely related, but that does not mean that they are the same, identity refers to the gender with which each of us manages to identify and accept to live according to what he feels inside, instead sexual orientation isan emotional, romantic, sexual or affective attraction towards others.

While it is true, gender helps us recognize and establish our personality, develop our character and form our own vision of the world, the construction of our gender identity involves multiple factors of our life that in one way or another helps us and make ushave a stronger and stronger posture of what we feel and want to be.

The current society in which we live is characterized by classifyrare;Because of this, many people have a hard time knowing what is right and wrong about what they are feeling or what they like, given that society has imposed something that is taken as "normal" and "correct" to classifyAttitudes and forms of expression as male and others as feminine, considering identity as a spectrum with two extremes: the identity attributed to women and related to men.

According to social complexes about the expression of the genre, the “correct” is that, if we are born with female sex, our genre is feminine, therefore, we must fall in love only of the opposite sex, have to wear pink clothes, dresses or skirts andcarry long hair; This type of usual comments should not be or interpreted as a kind of norm or label among citizens, since not to be born with a certain sex such as being born with female sex must be identified as a woman or feel attracted to the opposite sex, that is, in the event that a person is born with male sex, it may identify with the female gender, be asexual, androgynly seen and feel romantically attracted to both genres.

We must stop having vain and archaic thoughts, since they harm people’s physical and mental integrity; The only thing that these types of irrational ideas do is confuse people who are in an internal process of acceptance with themselves that try to leave behind all social ideologies of what is "normal" and what is not.

Freedom is the most precious human rights with which we have all citizens because it allows us to make transcendental decisions for our lives, one of them is gender identity. No one can discriminate against the way of feeling, living and expressing our genre, regardless of whether or not to correspond to our birth genre, that is, our sex assigned to birth.

We must all respect the decisions that each one wants to make for their life, since each one is free to choose what genre is identified, since this is not something fixed and immovable.

Until now it is accepted that gender identity is built (through parenting) or arises (naturally) in children around three years of age, and is subsequently very difficult to change.

In fact, in cases where some congenital condition causes sexual ambiguity (intersexuality or hermaphroditism) and is raised with a gender identity other than that of their chromosomal sexuality, it is impossible in later stages to impose gender identitybiological.

As we have built and as we have transmitted the idea of gender constitutes what will determine how we understand ourselves at the individual level and, therefore, as we build ourselves. Gender identity is therefore the result of a careful process that takes place throughout socialization. In such a way that, forming personal identity, gender identity reflects as gender sexual typification even affects our self-concept: born man or woman thus charges both individual and collective meaning. Beyond the physical differentiation of sex, each individual makes their own body and leads him to identify biologically with being a man or woman.

In this way, gender identity is built during early childhood through parental example, social reinforcement and even language itself. Parents raise their children in what they consider adequate behavior to their sex, and society later deals with strengthening these patterns.

Many times erroneous comments about gender identity are heard, some think by not choosing how usual their choice is because of a mental illness or some type of emotional problem caused by some childhood trauma, which has been proven and deniedby specialists; This is a totally own choice of the person following their personal growth and maturation.

Today there is a lot of gender diversity. For example: cycling, transsexuals, transsexuals and others. But as we know many are not accepted by the community and even worse by their relatives either.

In 2006 the UN presented the principles of yogyakarta in order to guide the application of the norms of International Human Rights Law, thus establish standards among people to guarantee the protection of those who decided to live life as a persongender different from their biological sex and manage to enjoy legislation that respects their decision.

In the various countries, laws are being carried out with the objective of promoting gender equality which positively influences respect between genders and enables its full and comprehensive development.

Trans people in Peru still face social ideology and discrimination, because not everyone manages to recognize and accept the existence of people with unconventional gender identities, that is, trans people. Since in some places they are still very conservative and insist that there are only two genres: men and women.
