Gattaca, film analysis

Gattaca is a science fiction film that questions the morality of genetic scientific experiments applied to the human being. It develops in a futuristic environment where society is divided into two types, the valid ones;Beings who suffered a genetic configuration process before birth, so they have been given exceptional skills that differentiated them from normal human beings called: invalid, also known as children of God;This group is formed by those who were born in a normal way. They have genetic imperfections, such as: diseases and addictions which are part of their genetic file and for this reason they were discriminated against by society.

Vicent’s parents observed serious genetic problems in their health, which allowed them to plan in their next son Anton improve genetics and offer better chances of success. Vicent and Anton used to play “El Gallina”, always lost against Vicent, until one day he decided to use all his energy and keep anything for his return, since then he never stopped fighting for his goals. On the other hand, Anton despite having the genetics on his side, could not succeed in life due to his conformism.

Vincent has always had the dream of being a pilot of a spaceship, which was impossible for his delicate condition (heart deficiency). Suddenly the opportunity to enter the Gattaca company is presented. In order to meet the requirements, it was facilitated to acquire the identity of a valid thanks to his friend named Eugene, who due to an accident was disabled, who supports them in relation to complying with analysis, samples and details that allow him to comply with as beingvalid and thus achieve your dream.

My opinion is that in the film there is great genetic discrimination by society, since they are not given the same opportunity between beings with genetic configuration and those born normal; It manifests itself in a rivalry between the scientific development and the nature of the human being;Aspiring to achieve "perfection" which is nothing more than a simple stereotype created by ourselves to fill the space of personal improvement, since in theory at birth perfectly it is not required to be the best, when in reality one should neveryield to conformism; We must stimulate the spirit of overcoming, the desire, thinking that there will always be areas of opportunity, which proves that there is no perfection. However, the idea of being able to modify a gene regarding health, avoiding or eliminating genetic diseases, seems to me a great advance for medicine. The teaching that the film leaves us is that "there is no gene for the human spirit" and that only effort and dedication to reach your goals is needed.
