Free will or puppets of destiny

Introduction

The Bandersnatch film introduces us in a story where we are able to make decisions for the future development of the life of the main character, Stefan, and as chosen are presented alternate finals. This essay relying on the aforementioned film, seeks to demonstrate the conception of the construction of reality through free will, the management of reality in the life or destination of the subject. 

We are who we build the path of our life or have we been deceived and we follow a pattern with returns to always reach our marked destination?, These two contradictions are feedback, we have freedom to choose between options that are presented to us, some mark our life and others not, but the punctual of our destiny is there waiting for the culmination of our existence.

The fact of being able to choose the character of the character, generates the sensation in the spectator to be the deity that defines the story of Stephan. This refers to the existence of an evil genius, since Descartes mentions this geniTruth when we really are in error. 

Developing

Well, this evil genius within history would be the spectators, because having the power to choose on the actions to be performed by the character, we seg and impose our reality, making Stephan think that he has control of his life and thatThe actions you will perform are correct, condemning it to live in a constant doubt about your own life and its final destination. 

We can see this at the time when it realizes that it has no control over its actions and that it is being manipulated by a platform called “Netflix”. Thanks to this film, we can appreciate that in our life we are under the control of this entity, which can take several forms or figures, for example, our parents, friends, colleagues and our same social circle, because we follow what we areThey say despite knowing that it is not right, leaving aside our will and our free will.

The film has a very peculiar essence, since it becomes an unreality for the character, thus creating what in philosophy is known as Maya’s veil, which was proposed by Arthur Schopenhauer saying that we live immersed in an illusory reality, whereOur conscience is wrapped in a deep dream that we cannot wake up if we are not able to tear it and break this veil through our willpower. 

Well, in the development of history we can see that Stephan has fallen deeply in the control of this veil, because he simply lived inside a dream that was nothing more than the illusion of reality that viewers chose. He was not able to wake up, to find his true reality, he lost his will, became a puppet of society. 

This situation is very common today, because we have all been submerged in our own unrealistic dreams, seeing under the will that society demands us, without having the power to make decisions that are really transcendent in our future. We continue without being able to find our Brahma, our true reality, our own essence, living without will.

On several occasions, we have questioned what our life is real inside, because as we know, we have several realities, but of which only one of these becomes something real, something physically observable and verifiable. Well, starting from this point of view, in Bandersnatch, it can be inferred that the character does not know how to distinguish the real facts and their intangible facts.

This can be defined from Kant’s philosophical vision with his agnosticism, where he raises two great postulates, the thing itself or also known as a phenomenon that according to this author is: the aspect that things offer before our senses;That is, the first contact we have with things, what we call experience.

 The phenomenon is in other words the real of things. On the other hand, the noumeno is the counterpart of the phenomenon, which can be defined as: a problematic term that is introduced to refer to a non -phenomenal object, that is, it does not belong to a sensitive intuition, but to an intellectual or supra intuitionsensitive. Well, within the film we can observe that the options that the spectators have to choose the path of history is the noumenic part, since we only have a sensitive intuition of what could happen, since this only limits us to knowingThe type of options we have, but we do not know that the end will cause for the character. 

On the other hand, the phenomenal part, are the materializations of sensitive intuition, which would be the development of the option taken that leads to the predestined final for Stephan. Although, the Noumeno, was the one who limited the main actor to know that it will happen with him by not having control of his life, because as Kant tells us, the thing itself is responsible for our knowledge limit, thenNot having an impression of what this will happen cannot build its reality to form it in the real, although Hume tells us that the impression are: 

That perception in which “we feel a passion or an emotion of any kind, or when the images of external objects are brought to us by our senses. They are our living and strong perceptions. Stephan did not have this knowledge, so he became a prisoner of the phenomenon chosen by others, this being real for him, and his conception of his immaterial idea.

But despite all this, if we who have the free will of choosing about a character, of having the power to be deities, dictators, judges of destiny, how do we build our own reality?, If we know that others are those behind us causing us to be variant, who do not have the power to choose, because Schopenhauer indicated that free will represents our will to do things to meet our needs, being these that build us ashuman and thinking beings. 

At this point it is where a French philosopher enters who, hosting some postulates from Schopenhauer, tries to explain how reality is built. This author is Jean-Paul Sartre, which proposes man as a project being, because it indicates that there is no spiritual or physical nature that can define our being, our essence, our actions. By not existing this entity, man is solely responsible for the construction of his essence, of his reality, so Sastre indicates that the human being is responsible for building his essence, because as this author indicates:

Human beings ‘are there’, there are realities that lack a predefined essence;And in that ‘be there’, whatever they are will depend exclusively on their way of existing. Since this existence is not something "added" to a predefined essence, the existence of human beings is prior to what they are as such, their existence is prior to their essence.

And to the extent that your being or that depends on its own realization as human beings, its becoming, its existence, is a free doing. Human beings are not subject to the need to correspond to an essence, so existence must be assimilated to contingency, not to need. Human beings are free. 

In this way, the human being by possessing freedom in his actions is able to choose his own reality, being responsible for his actions and assuming his responsibilities, having the possibility of modifying his reality as his project changes in a radical way. Thanks to this, we can observe that this film has given us the opportunity to understand how we are able to build reality, because throughout life several roads are presented to us which we have to choose between them, being these who are the ones whoThey will define us in the future, allowing us to access the reality that these paths had prepared us. This is how Sartre exclaims: there is no other legislator than the man himself.
