Feminist sociology as a solution to social problems
The purpose of the task to be carried out is to explain the social problems mentioned in reading, degrading the "Yal": antinegra racialization and violence in Puerto Rico. In addition, a contemporary sociological current will be chosen to argue more about the problems found. Sociology is responsible for interpreting and describing the scheme and functioning of society. In the same way, study how problems are verified at collective level as a result of social activities. Sociology had great importance in the evolution of today’s society since it allowed us to understand the behavior of human beings and recognize the problems that affect the quality of life of society.
Contemporary sociological currents are: functionalism, conflict theories, feminist sociology, symbolic interactionism and ethnomethodology. To argue the task to be done I chose feminist sociology. Feminist sociology is aimed at the participation of women in society and studies inequality, discrimination and stereotypes. I chose this contemporary sociological current since in the writing we can identify as a social problem discrimination towards women living in hamlets, have many children and listen to reggaeton. This type of women that society does not accept as normal due to stereotypes are called and are called "yal".
The discrimination is to distinction in the treatment for arbitrary reasons such as gender, socioeconomic level, racial origin among others among others. In addition, this term is given a negative connotation, to the extent that human beings or social groups are treated disparagingly. Taking as reference the expected definition we can see that discrimination meets most of the problems presented in reading since these women as mentioned above are discriminated against by their socioeconomic level. In addition, in reading we can see that one of the points of view that the author plays is that since 2014 the "yales" have been mistreated, violated, ridiculed and racialized.
In reading we also find that the author relates to call them “yal” women with racial discrimination towards black bars. It is for all the aforementioned problems that I chose the feminist sociological current since it encompassed all the problems mentioned in reading. My opinion about reading is that it is true that in Puerto Rico, women are discriminated against that it does not meet all the requirements to be an accepted woman. I think that feminist sociology had great importance in the evolution of society since it helps the woman to be recognized. Although currently the woman is more respected and has rights just like the man I think that there is still a long way to go to achieve equality. This is why he considered that feminist sociology has a great contribution to the current problem since it helps women in their struggles to overcome oppression and inequality.
