Essay on Mio Cid Song
Before deepening the "Mio Cid Song" you have to know its historical context. The work is intuited that it was written around 1200 during the Middle Ages.
The Middle Ages (S. V – XV) is distinguished by being a time of little progress in social and economic aspects, but there was still a slow progress of literature. At this time the gentlemen were conquerors who sought to expel the Moors from the Spanish lands. The Middle Ages finally ends several events such as the arrival of the printing press, the discovery of America, among others.
The "Mio Cid Song" also known as the Cido del Cid Campeador, is a singing of an unknown author, which recounts the exploits of the Knight Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. The work has no title, the current title has been acquired by the repeated appearance of Mio Cid as the protagonist hero.
This work presents characteristics of great historical value, it was the first work written in romance, it stands out of its good conservation by having practically reached our hands.
The work tells the process of loss and obtaining the honor of the protagonist, in this way the argument can be divided into two main parts. On the one hand it is from a nobleman who lost his position in the social hierarchy and who tries to recover it, and on the other hand it is the story of a father whose daughters are kidnapped by infants and must be rescued to recover his honor as a father.
The work is distributed by three songs:
- THE FIRST ‘THE CANTAR DE BADERRO’. The Cid is banished by false accusations, loses the honor and must be separated from his family. From there he decides to recover confidence offering conquered land and wealth to the king.
- The second ‘The Song of Weddings’. El Cid after years of war, conquest Valencia and recovers his honor. To reward, the king concerts the marriage of the Daughters of the Cid with the infants of Carrión.
- The third and last ‘’ The song of the Affont of Corpes ’’. In this the infants kidnap the daughters of the Cid, abuse and leave them in a forest. In learning the Cid challenges the infants to a duel, after obtaining their revenge in front of the court, the Daughters of the Cid are offered marriage to the infants of Navarra and Aragon ending the dishonor of the protagonist.
This is a poem with a varied metric, the rhyme is scarce, it is written in medieval Spanish and with expressions adopted from the peninsular Arabic. Beyond hyperbaton the rhetorical figures are scarce, this served for the public to understand it better since the improvement were illiterate. It has a total of 3730 anisosylabic verses. You could only enjoy going to minus shows.
In collusion the composition "of mine Cid" sought to entertain from the public, however it cannot be denied that there is a will on the part of the poet to achieve meticulosity and achieve an argument of unpublished qualities for the time.
