There are different reasons why students stay in line and therefore become one of the factors so that students lose interest to their studies, all this generates citizens who become illiterate, conducive to laziness, gang, drug addicts, etc. Education is considered to be given from childhood, because it is more difficult for you to acquire knowledge of adulthood, the poorest populations are those who receive the worst educational offer. Education is not only offered by the teachers of schools where they attend, but also in the minds of children, family and those who make up their social environment where they live.

The lag includes from illiteracy to people who have truncated any of these educational levels, in addition to being related to older age groups, the proportion of people in lag is larger -, which is due to the greatest capacity tocoverage that the Mexican education system has developed in recent years. According to Willms (2006) “Vulnerable groups are made up of children with low school performance, migrant day laborers, in street situations, who have not benefited from public education. Students who come from these groups and teachers who work in these contexts will be subject to mandatory and periodic evaluation processes, as mentioned by the new educational legislation ”.

What is the lag?

 

As author Suarez (2001) points out;The problem of educational lag has two phases: the production of the phenomenon and its accumulation. This defines two problems the absence of school and abandonment, which obey a multiple coincidence that in circumstances prevents themselves in studies and properly exercise the right to education. Sandoval (2001), points out that for the United Nations Organization (UN) "The educational lag represents to stop attending school before the termination of a given stage of teaching, or at some intermediate or non -terminal time of a school year" (P. 44).

When is a person considered in educational lag?

 

According to regulations, a person over 15 is in educational lag if he does not have the level of compulsory education in force. School education is considered the engine of personal and social development, therefore it acquires great relevance as one of the fundamental rights ((Education, 2009) .

According to the above, all those person mentioned without having completed the basic level of education is in an imminent situation of educational lag. In our country, the idea of educational lag refers to the situation of people who, according to census data, do not know how to read and write, or have not concluded at the age scheduled for this. The National Institute for Adult Education (INEA) has estimated that, in 2015, the educational lag was 34.1%. The illiteracy index, according to the 2010 census data, was then 6.9%. Despite the notable achievements in the coverage of the existing school system in Mexico, the estimate made by INEA undoubtedly represents a huge challenge for Mexican society.

Types of lag

 

When talking about educational lag, there is no reference to a single type, but according to Yurén et al. (2005), are presented in three different conditions:

  • • The extreme lag;They are people who are completely plunged into extreme illiteracy (population 15 years or older) who do not know how to read or write, from which part of the accumulated lag is demarcated.
  • • The accumulated lag;Which has already been mentioned above, including people who did not conclude compulsory basic education, for school or dropout, these people are part of the group of functional illiterates.
  • • The lag in training;They are those between 5 and 14 years of age who do not attend school and that for such a situation that live is the educational lag that has great possibilities of being part of the accumulated lag.
