Discrimination and physical appearance

People create prejudices that can affect others;A prejudice is an opinion (usually negative) that we make about someone or something in advance and without knowledge, that is, prejudging is having a concept of a person simplely and simply because they are different from us, that is, to dressdifferent, for having different opinions, for its skin tone, for being from another religion, for living in another area, etc.

People have different types of behaviors, a behavior is the behavior of a person. People also put stereotypes, a stereotype is an exaggerated perception and with few (simplified) details that are on a person or a group of people.

For all the above, we can conclude that discrimination is to give an unfavorable treatment to a certain person or group, because they are different from us, considering that our groups are, in some way or another, superior, understanding by superiors have better clothes, betterAutomobile, best house, best colony, greater purchasing power, etc.

In our school community there are different types of discrimination, behaviors, stereotypes and prejudices that, although sometimes we believe that they are not very noticeable, it is a fact that the discriminated person suffers, causing damage that can become irreparable.

There are various ways of discriminating, being able to be racism, gender discrimination, discrimination by sexual orientation, discrimination due to physical appearance, age discrimination, social status, among many others.

Discrimination by physical appearance

"As you see you, they treat you", this saying unfortunately has become very common in our society, this is because we have more and more stereotypes and prejudices in relation to physical appearance. Physical appearance discrimination is very common today in all social strata. With the rise of social networks, it is common for schools to record fights, bullying acts, abuse against whoever, even teachers, either in public or private schools, which shows us that even though there is the idea thatThese acts happen in marginalized social strata, we realize that it is not so.

Discrimination due to physical appearance is the rejection of a person because they are different, whether they have different skin tone, scars, tattoos, perforations, some type of disability, have a different physical complexion, clothing, social class, way of speaking, betweenother things.

The consequences that discrimination due to physical appearance is that the people involved are affected in a psychological plane, since they feel totally rejected by others, taking them to depression or to have anxiety. This is why very isolated and introverted people become. They also tend to become negative and aggressive people. Another consequence is that it deeply affects the self – esteem of the person. You can get insecure people, this can lead to violence and aggressiveness. Also, sometimes there are physical aggressions, to the degree of provoking injuries that endanger life.

Unfortunately there are cases in which, because of discrimination, people have lost their lives. Sometimes, for physical aggressions in which, among several subjects, they add to one. Also, due to cyberbullying, the pressure for the victim becomes such, who decide to take their lives.

To avoid any type of discrimination, we have to be empathic and understand and accept that, although we are all in essence, we must accept but above all respect our differences.

It is necessary not to normalize acts of discrimination, ranging from a comment making fun of how you are dress, hairstyle, what a clothing brand you use, if you wear glasses or brackets, as you speak, that your parents conduct your parents, what places you travel, what placesFrequent, etc.

All this affects us as a society since we put aside one or more people who look different from you or your group of friends, without having the opportunity to meet them, beyond the prejudices that we create or that we obey.

All together we must work to be more empathic with others, not prejudice and leave behind the stereotypes that we create or that the same society creates;Without a doubt the day we manage to overcome these harmful behaviors, we will have the opportunity to know (and to know us) people who consider different, respect those differences (as well as be respected) and create a healthy environment, of mutual respect and tolerance, andWe will definitely be a united and strong society.
