Differences of social work with other social works

Introduction

Social work was developed at the end of the 18th century in the United States after having acquired the knowledge arising in England from the middle of the 18th century following the industrial revolution.

We understand social work as a scientific discipline that deals with all those psychosocial discomforts that affect people, both at the micro and macro level. By psychosocial discomfort we understand all those problems that affect both the person in their private sphere and in their social relationships, unlike other disciplines, social work studies the case, but in addition to that it intervenes to achieve a positive change.

As a synthesis, we could say that the social worker deals with those individuals who have been excluded or do not feel part of society, finding out the causes of their exclusion and trying to find a solution to introduce this person again in society.

Developing

Social work differs from other disciplines and other professions because the object of this encompasses both the person and their environment, that is, as the person, the situation and external reality that surrounds it and how are you interacting and how they interact. Therefore, the social worker works at the same time with the person and his social context.

In addition, the social worker evaluates and intervenes with the objective of promoting change to social needs, thus improving the well -being of the individual and their social relations. This is achieved through the application of theories about human behavior and social systems.

Already seen what the object and methodology of the social worker is, we will find a series of differences with their related disciplines. The psychologist focuses on the individual behavior and the biological factors of the individual; The nurse focuses on the basic health care of the individual in terms of his health, without attending the social; the doctor, diagnosis and treats the symptoms and diseases of the individual in biological way; The psychiatrist is a doctor specialized in different mental illnesses.

All these sciences deal with people, and despite their differences they establish close ties between them in order to meet the individual in all their needs.

conclusion

In our opinion, social work is an essential discipline for human development in a stable society. We consider that the period in which the social sciences arose were the right time and situation to arise a scientific response to analyze, work and find solutions to the social problems that began to be raised at that time.

Despite the obvious differences between the different social disciplines, the social worker works harmoniously with the other disciplines, such as psychology, nursing, medicine or psychiatry. All these professions at the individual level are important, but they are really effective when they manage to comment with each other.

In final conclusion, the figure of the social worker arose to find out what was happening and today remains an indispensable discipline for the development of a functional and healthy society.
