Definition and parameters of good and evil

Good and evil, what are they? How do we define them? And who dictates the parameters to differentiate them? These questions can enter the discussion of this writing. Throughout history, mainly from different religious perspectives such as Christianity, Judaism, Islamism to polytheistic philosophies of ancient cultures from different parts of the world, the concepts of goodness and evil have led humanity to specific behaviors related tofullness, transcendence and eternal life regarding good and condemnation, suffering and pain regarding evil.

The first definitions, as the principle is raised, come from religion, it has tried to explain good and evil through divine characters or entities whose knowledge surpasses that of the human being, through stories or stories where the protagonists arebenevolent gods and antagonists are usually demons, monsters or evil creatures. Such stories involve conflicts that always lead to the triumph of good over evil, causing a certain type of condemnation or punishment to those who represent the evil part.

Then, religion affirms from a moral point of view, that good is expressed through actions that are considered correct which come from feelings such as love, and attitudes such as goodness, loyalty; On the contrary, evil manifests with hatred, violence, or foolishness.

Now, resorting to the most basic definitions of these concepts we can find that good is ruled with the fact of doing, thinking or deciding the right thing:

"1. What in itself has the complement of perfection, or what is the object of the will. two. What is favorable, convenient: a good for all. 3. What teaches the moral that must be done, or what is according to duty ". As for evil, we can find: “1. Adj. Apóc. of bad. two. The opposite of good, the bad. 3. Material or moral damage:

Taking the good as what is convenient for society, commandments and laws have been developed, delimiting the behaviors of individuals for harmonic coexistence; The opposite behaviors that challenge what is established as correct, are interpreted as an attack on peace, therefore they are considered a manifestation of evil, and therefore, they are punished.

Understanding good and evil as two inherent concepts of each other, it can be quickly concluded that they are accessories or opposites, because through the comparison the obvious contrasts are deduced between them, however this primary statement with the same speed can fall intoambiguity. Away from moral. Good or evil analyzed from individual ethics are subjective, justice here depends on the context situation. Visualizing good from morals has caused us problems when doing justice, such is the case of issues such as death or abortion, delicate situations that need to be analyzed without rigorous stages, so we must consider that good and badThey are not finished or immovable concepts.

In conclusion I will resume the vision that some oriental cultures have, which represent good and evil from the philosophy of Ying Yang, it considers that they are not separated but are accessories, one is within the other, it is the balance of the world, such as day and night, sadness and happiness, the masculine and the feminine. To obtain the balance of the world we must walk along the line that divides good and bad.
