Current immigration: perspective that bothers or racism, xenophobia, and hidden patriotism

The topics for this edition had been interesting. I did not know, at first, which one I wanted to develop my opinion better, but after all I could decide.

When I read the central theme, I thought what were the perspectives that currently, for some reason, cause a large number of discomforts. I started reading news, ask friends and family to give an opinion about what they understood by perspectives that bother.

Some people talked about politics nationwide, others talked about religion, also mentioned economic issues and an uncertain direction that our country could go to go. But after having heard his testimonies I asked myself if I had really felt identified with any of the interpretations heard, and the one that caught my attention was the one I heard from my grandmother Susana.

My grandmother Susana, 63, arrived in the country 25 years ago in search of job opportunities, due to the social inequality that witnessed her country of origin at the time of leaving.

The opinion what gave me was not at all that I had expected, I thought I was going to comment on something about religions or economy, but not. Sitting, watching television without paying much attention to what I was telling him, he told me: "Talking about current immigration is an issue that nobody brings, or that they bring in a derogatory, absurd and unpatient way". He stopped and told me a little more about his experiences as a foreign person who arrived in the country with hopes of being part of this society, which initially instead of welcoming it, turned his back on him. That gave me the foot, to decide what I was going to want to write.

But first I would like to cite some comments that I read in some social media posts:

  • "Immigrants come to the country, study, use our resources, and then leave, do not pay taxes and have the best jobs". Alejandro m.
  • "The country was filled with Venezuelans, they want to change the way we live" Sandra R.
  • "All they do is come to ask for plans because it is what they give easily" Nicolás to.
  • "I cost me more to renew the document than any other person who arrives in Argentina and this day ago" Sebastián P.
  • "They come to Argentina to take advantage of our free education and then leave" Francisco C.
  • “They come to take the work from Argentines (we should be more priority). Natalia v.

Most comments express a strong displeasure with unofficial immigration. They express fear and express disagreement for extremely capitalist issues. It is not a collective concern, but a more individualistic concern. “It bothers me that they come to get my job, but I am not aware of what jobs are those who have. "

Comments of this type are what I found looking for publications in my social networks that refer to the immigration phenomenon.

Most Argentines negatively evaluate the arrival of permanent foreigners in the country. But what is this negative evaluation? Does it hide the same, xenophobic and racist aspects? Or simply, it is related to the increasing difficulty of accessing better services of common use?

When I read those comments, and after having investigated a little more about current immigration, I realized that my grandmother was right, although it was a fairly avoidable issue, it generated a lot of discomfort in some people, not only discomfort, but also thatexpressed disagreement.

It is no coincidence that the data, and the consolidated statistics of migratory movement, provided by the National Migration Directorate, strengthened my opinion on immigration in general.

The data claim that the number of people who come from other countries to settle. They come in search of a country in which they can feel more comfortable, and where culture is a bit more similar, because, at least the language is not a problem of adaptation for them.

What is indeed a problem (perhaps not for them that come in search of opportunities, since in their country, for some reason, the State and the policies or the economic situation could not provide it) are the inequalities they find upon arrival, believing that they leave behind them, but no, they appear again. They arrive with the hope and the dream that they can get acceptance by employers. But after all the vast major. But they are already here. They already left behind part of their culture, to enter a new one, although the patterns are repeated. They do not have the rights they should and have to deal with the fact of being immigrants as if this were a problem. So what kind of work are "stealing"? What really is the reason for the discomfort of some people?

These are questions that I still have unable to solve. But if we summarize those points, almost all point to the same destiny "fear", that is, a fear of losing something, to be attacked, to lose priority, and to lose a power that some people can believe that they have to be natively Argentines.

From my point of view this produces a totally noticeable division. It causes people to feel less safe in a place where they come to seek the security they already took for loss.

Not accepting cultural differences, different ideologies is becoming a kind of "fashion". I keep an opinion that I believe absolute and I do not give the other person an opportunity to explain their point of view, that is what happens mostly.

The same goes for social networks, most people use them, we believe that in real life we can also create our own virtual communities. In other words, we create and interact virtually to people who mostly have the same thoughts or with whom we feel identified, but if there is something that is not compatible with us or we do not like it, we have the opportunity to block it, eliminate it and not knownothing more.

The same cannot be done in real life, and less with aspects that should not be questioned in a xenophobic, and racist way. Not accepting the other for simply being different, it is totally absurd.

It is time to fight for equality, conditions must be egalitarian for all people living in our country, it is important to raise awareness among more people and share the idea that there is no monotonous culture. The change happens, the change is happening and we are responsible for communicating our thoughts in a way that can be prosecuted by people who are willing to listen to us.

Hate does not take us anywhere. The power less. More empathy

‘The representatives of the People of the Argentine Nation, gathered in the General Constituent Congress by will and election of the provinces that compose it, in compliance with pre -existing pacts, in order to constitute the National Union, strengthen justice, consolidate inner peace, Provide the common defense, promote general well -being, and ensure the benefits of freedom, for us, for our posterity, and for all the men of the world who want to live in the Argentine soil: invoking the protection of God, source ofAll reason and justice: we order, decree and establish this Constitution for the Argentine Nation.’
