Critical thinking about Matrix

Is reality real? Question that has always aroused restlessness in relation to the subject with the world. And so, there is another followed question, is my reality real?

The philosophy has always dissected this concern, on the one hand trying to respond to "being and existence", in terms of what is real? And if there is a reality after appearance?, What points to an ontological problem. On the other hand, philosophy has also worried about knowing?what is the truth?, And if knowledge is a product of reason or experience?, What points to an epistemological problem.

Such concern has been from the first Greek (pre-social) philosophers, and continues to be, one of the great problems that different currents of thought or doctrines have tried to respond to the problem of whether or not there is reality outside our mind.

Apart from this philosophical environment, the individual in everyday life without further complication maintains that reality exists, "and ready", because it is a fact that "reality is real", and therefore the problem of questioning such asexistence.

In the trilogy "The Matrix", the famous scene of the red and blue pill, Morpheus explains to Neo: "You were born in a prison that you cannot smell, taste or play, a jail for your mind". It refers to "a reality in which human beings are subjected by machines, keeping them connected to a dream and false world that comes from a computer program called Matrix", as is the metaphor of the "myth of the cave", in thework "The Republic of Plato", to explain the situation in which the human being is regarding knowledge. "In it Plato explains his theory of how we can capture the existence of the two worlds: the sensitive world (known through the senses) and the intelligible world (only attainable through the exclusive use of reason)" ".

Descartes for his part indicates that any human part of his senses when elaborating his knowledge but these perceptions sometimes fail. There is something that remains unbeatable throughout the doubt process: the doubt itself. Therefore, if there is doubt, there is thought and if there is thought there is, at least as a thinking substance: "Ergo sum" or "I think, then I exist".

The dialogue between Morpheus and Neo presents this human concern "What is real? How would you define real? If you mean what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, the real could be electrical signs interpreted by your brain ”. The film is an invitation to question reality and ask if you really live in Matrix.

The starting point of this reflection leads to the approach of why and for what of the analysis of reality, in the understanding that the human being raises the need to know the reality of which he is part, from the interest of improving theconditions of your environment, and try to solve the difficulties and obstacles that can alter your daily life.

In this sense, the analysis of reality, according to Pérez (1994: 15), becomes “to approach it, to reveal and know it, in order to improve it, because the reality is something that is given to us, what exists, the scope in which the life of man develops and everything with what is related. It implies knowing where you are, where you want to go and how to do it ”. Schwartz and Jacobs (1984) propose it from the reconstruction of reality, defining it how to learn to see from within, the world of an individual or a group.
