Coronavirus infection: threat or a simple flu
Currently, Coronavirus has become a controversy issue, because of the multiple victims worldwide. This has caused endless doubt to the population regarding the existing risk to public health. Ecuador is prepared?
This threat consists of a large family of viruses that can cause various health conditions, from a simple flu to more serious diseases both in animals and human beings. The one that is affected today is COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the Coronavirus that has been more recently discovered in Wuhan (China) in December 2019.
So far, the National Institute for Public Health (INSPI) has taken 855 samples of which 199 are positive for COVID-19. Confirmed patients and their contacts have medical surveillance and control by the Ministry of Public Health. The cases in provinces are Guayas 157, Bolívar 2, Manabí 8, Los Ríos 10, Pichincha 12, Sucumbíos 1, Morona Santiago 1, Azuay 7 and 1 in El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El El Oro.
This disease causes fever, tiredness and dry cough;A minority of patients can present pain, nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, throat or diarrhea pain which appear gradually. There are people who infect and do not suffer any symptoms, about 80% recover from the disease without performing any special treatment. A minimum group made up of older people and suffering from underlying medical problems, such as arterial hypertension, heart problems or diabetes are likely to develop a serious illness. About 2% of the people who have contracted the disease have died.
According to WHO, this disease can spread through goticles from the nose or mouths that are fired when coughing or exhaling. These goticles fall on objects and surfaces that, if people touch and then cover their eyes, nose or mouth runs the risk of getting this disease. Another way is to inhale the dropicles that a person has spread with the COVID-19 so it is important to stay one meter away from a sick person.
The World Health Organization informs us about the precautions that we must continue so as not to spread:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently using a disinfectant based on alcohol or with soap and water.
- Maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter between you and anyone who tosses or sneezes.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Both you and the people around them should ensure good hygiene of the airways. That means covering the ca and nose with bent elbow or with a paper handkerchief when coughing or sneezing.
- Stay at home if you are not well. If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, look for medical attention and call in advance.
- See the most recent news about the areas of greatest danger. If possible, avoid moving to these areas, especially if your age is annoying or you have diabetes, heart disease or pneumopathies.
- Follow the orientations exposed.
- If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, you quickly seek medical advice, since it could be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition. Call in advance and report to your health care dispenser on any trip you have recently made or any contact you have had with travelers.
Finally, given the appearance of Covid-19 cases in Ecuador the Ecuadorian government has decreed curfew to avoid the mass propagation of this disease, taking the same initiative of several countries. People at this time must be responsible for both personal hygiene and the care of advanced age to those who have the most probability of death. Therefore we must respect the quarantine for case control and containment of infected people.
