Characteristics and style of abstract art

“Art is generally understood as any activity or product carried out with an aesthetic and also communicative purpose, through which ideas, emotions and, in general, a worldview, through various resources, such as plastics, linguistic,Sounds, body and mixed.Art is a component of culture, reflecting in its conception the economic and social bases, and the transmission of ideas and values, inherent to any human culture throughout space and time. It is usually considered that with the appearance of homo sapiens art had in principle a ritual, magical or religious function (paleolithic art), but that function changed with the evolution of the human being, acquiring an aesthetic component and a social, pedagogical, commercial functionor simply ornamental ”(Wikipedia 19 Mar 2020)

There is a great variety of arts. Art types are representations, activities and daily expressions of society, including we can mention: modern art, street art, conceptual art, contemporary art, abstract art, among others.

One of the expressions of art that I like, is abstract art, then express through this essay, knowledge and information about this interesting art. “Abstract art is the opposite of the figurative (that is, the representation of identifiable objects through recognizable images). Therefore abstraction does not represent concrete "things" of nature but proposes a new reality. Proposes a "pure art" looking beyond our reality. Although from the first art elaborated by the human being we already have an example of abstraction (from the prehistoric caves to the decorations in Romanesque churches), Kandinsky is officially the first to theorize about this (apart we have the neoplasticists or the suprematists, and aShortly before isolated figures such as Hilma AF Klint)." (HE HAS! 19 Mar 2020)

In other words, abstract art uses forms and perspectives that do not copy reality, but are free and innovative works, which remain in the interpretation of the spectator or admirer. That is, abstract art simulates multiple looks at the same time and of different angles by the receiver. However, the abstraction of this artistic expression does not always retain this characteristic in the same way. Often the abstract is barely noticeable. Other times, on the other hand, it is more complete and notable. It does not seek perfection in representation and refuses to reflect the outside world. That is, any work of art that presents an alteration of the shape and/or color, can be called a work of abstract art. The abstract is a term that began to be used with modern art in the west. As a prelude to abstract art, there are abstract representations with geometric figures and stylized since the time of prehistory.

Abstract art is the artistic style that arises around 1910 and whose consequences have made it one of the most significant manifestations of the spirit of the twentieth century. Abstract art does not need to justify the representation of the figures but tends to use their own visual language with varied meanings. In the beginning, abstract art resulted in great controversies and discrepancies. In fact, in times of prehistory stylization and geometrism were used. But over time it has become an inexhaustible source of ideas for artists of our century and nobody dares now to question their existence and identity as its own art.

The language used is based on the author’s fauvistas and sensations, normally exalting the force of color. There is also the expression with cubist structuring, which results in the different geometric and constructive abstractions. The abstract tradition knew an important rebirth in the United States from the end of the forties with the action painting and with the Colour-Field Painting. These trends were supplanted from 1960 by the appearance of minimalist art that began.

Abstract art is characterized by not having rules, she can often be almost imperceptible, light or complete. The lines and colors are used to create original compositions, escaping from a perfect representation. This artistic movement refuses to imitate the outside world and is based only on the artist’s thoughts.

Abstract art types are organized as follows. Abstract expressionism is based on emotion, the expressiveness of color, and on the psychological manifestations of the artist. Totally reject figuration. Its founder was Vasily Kandinsky, followed by other artists such as Paul Klee, francisco Hung, Armando Barrios, Hugo Baptista, Enrique Ferrer, among others.

Neoplasticism, in reality it is an art that excludes all kinds of emotions, since it is governed by mathematical rules and radical simplification of geometry. Among its outstanding artists are Theo Van Doesburg, Mercedes Pardo and Pedro Briceño.

Kandinsky, creator of abstract art. The liberation of color and strength of geometric shapes give way to the avant -garde of abstract painting. There are also different types of artists of abstract art among them are, Kasimir Malévich, Piet Mondrian, Max Bill, Frank Stella, Theo Van Doesburg, Hilma AF Klint, Nassos Daphnis, among others.

To conclude I would like to express because I chose this issue, because since I was little I have passionate about art, even more abstract art, since it is a personal and free expression. Within my drawings although they are not abstract, I express in them an idea about what I am and what I feel, it makes me feel free and this relates to this type of art. It is important that this essay has allowed me to know more about art and abstract art. I dare to quote Edgar Degas, with a few words that inspire me.

"Art is not what you see, but what you see others"
