Aspects of multiple pregnancy and their types

WHAT IS IT

A multiple pregnancy is the simultaneous development of two or more fetuses in the uterus, this pregnancy is the result of the fertilization of two or more ovules, or when a single ovule is fruitful and this is divided into two or more, giving rise to fetusesgenetically identical. (Wikipedia, 2019) (Webconsultas, 2019)

Monozygotic twins

This case occurs when a single egg sperm, but this is divided into two parts that have continued to develop separately, resulting in two embryos of the same sex, whether genetically identical men or women, that is, with very similar physical characteristics. However, despite their great resemblance, these children have very different personalities and are totally independent people. (WebConsultas, 2019)

Monocygotic twins can have placentas and amniotic bags separately, but most of them share the same placenta, but have individual amniotic bags. In very rare cases these can be developed in the same amniotic sack and in the same placenta.

Dicigotic twins

Dicigotic twins, on the contrary, are the result of multiple fertilization, that is, that the mother had more than an ovule, and that these ovules were fertilized by different sperm so, although they were conceived at the same time, they are babiestotally different, which could be men, women or a combination of both, and whose physical resemblance is similar to that of the brothers born on different dates. In this case, the twins develop in placentas and individual amniotic bags. (WebConsultas, 2019)

CAUSES

Natural factors include the following:

  • Genetics: The family history of multiple pregnancy increases the possibilities of repeating.
  • Age: women of more than 30 are more likely to a double ovulation and therefore a multiple conception.
  • Previous pregnancies: having had one or more previous pregnancies, especially a multiple pregnancy, increases the chances of this being repeated.
  • Race: African -American women are more likely to have twins than any other race. Asians and inhabitants from the US. UU. They have lower twins rates. Caucasian women, especially those over 35, have the highest rate of multiple births of more than two fetuses (thunder or more).

Other factors include reproductive technologies, including the following:

The medications that stimulate ovulation: such as clomiphene citrate and follicle stimulation hormone (HEF), help produce a large number of ovules that, if fertilized, can lead to multiple babies. (Health, 2019)

Assisted reproduction technologies, which include in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other techniques, can help couples to conceive. These technologies often use medications that stimulate ovulation to produce several ovules, which are then fertilized in the laboratory and return to the uterus to develop. (Health, 2019)
