Anxiety disorder in university students

"Free yourself from anxiety, think that what should be, will be and happen naturally"

-Facundo Cabral.  This essay will describe how anxiety harms the lifestyle that a university student leads. We adopt a negative position, that anxiety harms the student’s academic field and it is difficult for him to control this disorder.

I will present the causes and consequences of anxiety disorder. In addition, how we can treat it to lead a better academic life. We will touch the following points in question: concept, problematic and their possible solutions.

Before deepening the subject we must expose that it is anxiety disorder. I looked for articles and academic documents to understand this phenomenon. I define anxiety as that "something" that makes us feel insecure in a specific space or when we are surrounded by people. According to Sierra y Compañía, (2003),

"The term anxiety refers to the combination of different physical and mental manifestations that are not attributable but are manifested either in the form of crisis or rather as a persistent and diffuse state" (P.fifteen).

In addition, we can say that anxiety goes hand in hand with fear, since when we are in insecure places we create an inner fear which prevents us from continuing with our daily routines. According to Sierra y Compañía, (2003), "Both anxiety and fear appreciate thoughts of hazards, APR sensations, physiological reactions and motor responses" (P.fifteen). Therefore, anxiety prevents us from achieving our goals by creating doubts without risking ourselves.

Around the world there is a certain percentage of people suffering from this disorder. In recent years the most controversial issue is the damage caused by anxiety to university students regardless of social status regardless. It is worth mentioning that one of the causes that affects the academic field and that it comes to adopt this disorder, according to Contreras and Company, (2005), “that school failure constitutes a serious problem at a human, moral and social level, which often generates exclusionsthat will mark young people throughout their lives ”(P.187). On the other hand, his main consequence is when the individual thinks that he does not have the necessary capacities to be able to achieve his objective in the academic field and that is when anxiety consumes him. According to Pajares and Schunk, (2011), “People who doubt their abilities may believe that things are more difficult than they really are, a belief that generates tension, depression and a close vision to solve.”This is how this phenomenon can affect the group of university students in the academic field. However, we cannot forget the existence of possible solutions for this problem.

Now I will present the solutions that can favor the university student or public in the general. Investigate Dr’s book. Moreno, where we talk about overcoming anxiety and fear. According to Moreno, (2009), "Through muscle relaxation it is possible to reduce or eliminate the physical symptoms of anxiety that occur daily" (P.84). This will allow us to have the body relaxed in the fearful moments. Another example can be to go jogging, since it keeps us with the mind and calm body. On the other hand, we cannot forget that the fear of not achieving our objectives is also considered as a consequence of anxiety. To do this, we must make mental relaxation. According to Moreno, (2009), "the important thing is to be attentive to changes, be" positive "or" negative ", and to the lack of changes" (p.99). This means that we must always be ready for new changes.

To conclude, anxiety has many problematic factors around it where the only one affected is the individual’s mental health. It can be a risk in itself, because the university student can not only adopt that phenomenon, but also, a disorder to social phobia, anguish, stress and fear. However, if we want to have a healthy life in the academic field, my recommendation is to organize our routine schedule, program a certain time to study and another time to have fun. In addition, having a psychotherapy can help us maintain better mental health.
