Animal skin: can we create a fashion without suffering?
Every year we sacrifice more than 180 million innocent animals to obtain their skin. And they don’t lack reason.
Beyond those warm leather coats shown in stores, there are thousands of small creatures that have suffered terrible torture for them. Well, if these animals are not hunted, they are raised in extremely reduced and sacrificed spaces of violent and painful ways.
It is true that we have millennia using animals skins to shelter the cold temperatures, but now new technologies offer us many more alternative possibilities. Not only can we manufacture infinitely better, cheaper and more comfortable fabrics, it is also possible to create much less bloody materials.
Every year more than 20 million animals are hunted to make skin garments with them. The numbers do not end there, because another 40 million animals are raised in fur farms with the same purpose.
Animals on fight farmes
When needed only by their skin, animals are not maintained in any way that provides good health. On the contrary, these are locked in close cages or even exposed to strong downpours, frost nights and the burning sun. In these unfortunate conditions, animals stress and end up automating themselves or among them;The ears, legs, tails bite ..
As the important product is their skin, animals also suffer from hunger and turn to cannibalism, trying to feed on other poor animals.
And it is in these deplorable conditions that animals live their entire life;without being able to run through the forests, nor hunt, or reproduce as they should. Only locked in cages, until they reach the right size to be ruthlessly or even bound while they are aware of that torture.

The vast majority of fighting farms do not consider any of the needs of the living beings they maintain: sick, famous animals, suffocated in cages … they even become skinned alive in public places, usually in the streets of China.
Today’s alternatives
It is undeniable that we have had great advances in the creation of new materials, cleaner and less bloody. Today, brands like Stella McCartney and Shrimps strive to manufacture these cruelty-free materials. Stella, for example, uses recycled materials and organic fabrics instead of leather and animal hair (and also, with incredibly good quality).

It is true that skin products are used less in Europe, but in return, their consumption increases by millions in China and Russia. Torture does not end. And as the philosopher Schopenhauer said, "man has made the earth a hell for animals".
