ANALYSIS OF THE MILE HOTEL RWANDA

This film is about the history of Hutu Paul Rusesabagina, his and Mille Corinth’s family. Based on the residents of the hotel, it shows the conflictive life or the massacres of Ruandese citizens, as well as the actions of different governments and organizations such as the United Nations. From the beginning of the film, people realized that there was a high degree of corruption in Rwanda in the 1990s. For example, when it provided hotels, they kept paying money and bribes to obtain basic products.

Two hutus people and the conflict between the tutsis began to close. The huge gap among the citizens of the country. Although the problem began to be intuited by the news that Hutu soldiers sent them on the radio (they called them ‘cockroaches’, tutsi) and the continuous violent behavior, when threats and murders occurred, Paul began to suffer directly. Against his neighbors, but first he did not seek to help them because he said he wanted to use the influential people he knew at the hotel when his family needed it, because it was the most important thing for him. As expected, the death threat came from his own family because his wife, Tatiana, is different from him, Tutsi.

For this reason, Paul moved several threats, including his family, to the rooms of the hotel he operated, and was forced to bribe important Hutus soldiers. Unfortunately, the hope of international aid that Paul and others expected was delayed more than expected, and the terrible civil war occurred during the murder of the president of Rwanda during that period. After this incident, the Hutus began to massacre the Tutsi, a lot of feared people went to the Demir Collins hotel in search of refuge, then the entrance of people was so huge that they had to start sleeping in the hallway.

On the other hand, there are two Europeans who work for the BBC and try to collect information and images about what happened in Kigali, but the conflict reached such a level that the work became too risky. To disappoint everyone, the arrival of international aid is extremely discriminatory, because they came to rescue European citizens to bring them back to their countries of origin, without any intention to interfere in the conflict. Therefore, Paul and other Ruandese citizens stayed in a hotel, and it seemed that it was his last hope of leaving. Oliver is a special envoy from the United Nations. Appears in the conflict throughout the film.

He seems to be the only person who can help, because from the last incident you can see that the United Nations and international governments and other organizations are there. Interested in helping the people of Rwanda. As regards Paul, he will not lose confidence and is totally committed to the mission of saving all those who arrive at the hotel with the key help of Oliver. He began to desperately call him all contacts of him, even asking all the Rosses of the hotel, calling people who knew abroad, and do not forget that, at the same time, he must continue bribing the leaders Hutus. People, so they don’t attack the hotel. The call entered into force and international assistance began to selected families, but due to the rebellion of the Hutu people, the operation failed because the Hutu radio station maliciously denounced the secret operation secretly.

Some of the important events that analyzed in the film was when after the First World War, Rwand. During this period, among the ethnic groups existing in Rwanda (Hutus, Tutsi and Tava), the Belgians preferred the Tutsi, which are smaller than the Hutus. This has led to years of tension and violence between the two nations. Among the conflicts and events are: · The ‘Hutu Revolution’ of 1959 led to the evacuation of almost 300.000 Rwanda Tutsis. · At the beginning of 1961, the Hutu managed to force the Tutsi tribe, the main monarch of Rwanda, in exile, thus proclaiming the establishment of a Republic in Rwanda.

The United Nations referendum was held in the same year and in 1962 the Belgian government declared Rwanda an independent country. In 1973, a military group imposed Habyarimana, the leader of the Hutu regime, who continued to serve as the country’s leader for about 20 years. In 1994 an airplane was demolished to the aforementioned Habyarimana President and Burundeses leaders. It can be said that, after the beginning of violence, Hutus extremists were determined to destroy all tutsis.

In the end, after repeated survival efforts, Paul, his family and other Ruandses managed to reach a refugee camp where there were thousands of people and many appreciated him for his perseverance and selfless help. They also found the little niece they had been looking for for a long time because they did not know the whereabouts of Tatiana’s brother and wife.
