Alcoholism as a psychic and physical state of alcohol consumption
Alcoholism is cataloged as: alcoholic dependence syndrome that corresponds to “a psychic and usually physical state resulting from alcohol consumption’ ’(WHO, 1976). This has become a social problem of severe rank, for the reason for free access to the youth population, causing health and mental problems, if it is not properly treated. Alcoholism victims often place alcohol consumption above all other obligations, including: studies, work and family, can develop physical tolerance or experience withdrawal symptoms if they do not constantly do so.
The worldwide research shows that: ‘’ more than a quarter of young people aged 15 to 19 from all over the world, 27%, drink alcohol. The highest consumption rates correspond to Europe (44%) followed by Western Americas and Pacific, both with 38%’’ (WHO, 2018). And apparently, these cases are not being treated with the necessary care, because of not being considered a disease as such, thus extending, from the youth stage to the adult stage, carrying serious health problems such as: cirrhosis, cerebral spills or attacks to the heart.
WHO analyzed that: Ecuador is ninth on the scale with greater consumption of alcoholic beverages, where 7 is ingested.2 liters of alcohol per year. A reliable source study yields the following figures: people between 19 and 24 years are the ones who consume alcoholic beverages with 12%, followed by those aged 25 to 44 with 11.5%, from 45 to 61 years with a percentage of 7.4%, those over 65 with 2.8% and the population under 18 with 2.5%. (INEC, 2013). And in Quito’s figures it is affirmed that: ‘’ Alcohol consumption in the capital is 20.00%. Teenagers between 19-34 drink excessively. The age at which they begin to ingest these drinks is at the age of 12.’’ (OPS, 2018).
Knowing that alcoholism is a social problem of great importance in the life of the human being, and even more in the adolescents of the 21st century, the following professional careers are considered to provide services that directly and indirectly interfere with People with alcoholism are: medicine, psychology, to treat disorders, anguish, anxiety and compulsive behavior for the need to drink alcohol; Social work, are dedicated to knowing the circumstances that each person is going through, there is also: anthropology, social communication, humanities, sociology, pedagogy, political science, among others.
